Verstappen blijft rustig: "De muren zijn hier heel dichtbij"

Max Verstappen start de Grand Prix van Monaco vandaag vanaf de pole position. Het zorgt ervoor dat hij direct ook de grote favoriet is voor de zege in de straten van zijn woonplaats. Verstappen zelf wil nog niet te vroeg juichen en laat nog maar eens weten dat het een lange race is.

De race is straks 78 rondjes lang en de geschiedenis leert dat er veel kan gebeuren in de straten van Monaco. Verstappen heeft zichzelf tot favoriet gelanceerd door de felbegeerde pole position te pakken in de kwalificatie van gisteren. Met de snelle Aston Martin van Fernando Alonso naast zich op de eerste startrij kan er veel gebeuren en dat realiseert Verstappen zich ook.

Verstappen wil dan ook niet te vroeg juichen. Voorafgaand de wedstrijd is de Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur zeer relaxt en leek hij zich geen zorgen te maken. Tijdens de drivers parade werd hij gevraagd naar zijn verwachtingen voor de Grand Prix: "Het is een heel erg lange race. De muren zijn hier heel dichtbij en je moet de hele tijd je focus vasthouden. We weten dat inhalen hier heel erg moeilijk is, maar het is ook heel erg makkelijk om hier een foutje te maken."
