Vasseur zegt sorry tegen Leclerc na kwalificatie-incident

Charles Leclerc kon afgelopen weekend weer niet schitteren in zijn thuisland Monaco. De Ferrari-coureur kwalificeerde zich als derde, maar kreeg een gridstraf van drie plaatsen vanwege het blokkeren van Lando Norris. Teambaas Frédéric Vasseur baalde van de miscommunicatie en bood zijn excuses aan namens het team.

Leclerc leek de pole position te kunnen pakken in de straten van Monaco. De Ferrari-coureur had kortstondig de snelste tijd in handen, maar Fernando Alonso en Max Verstappen waren nipt sneller. Tijdens zijn out lap ging het bijna mis in de tunnel. Leclerc blokkeerde Lando Norris, die op dat moment bezig was met een snelle ronde. De stewards bekeken de situatie en gaven Leclerc een gridstraf van drie plaatsen.

Excuses

Leclerc beleefde vervolgens een tegenvallende race waarin hij slechts als zesde finishte. Ferrari-teambaas Frédéric Vasseur begreep de teleurstelling van zijn coureur en sprak zich uit bij Motorsport.com: "Wat kan ik nog meer doen dan mij namens het team te verontschuldigen? We moeten begrijpen hoe we het beter kunnen doen en we moeten erachter komen hoe we de communicatie tussen Charles en de pitmuur in deze omstandigheden kunnen verbeteren."

Omstandigheden

Vasseur denkt dat het incident in de Monegaskische kwalificatie ook op zichzelf stond. De Franse teambaas wijst naar de unieke vorm van het circuit, maar hij wil dit niet als excuus gebruiken: "Het heeft denk ik ook te maken met de omstandigheden waaronder dit gebeurde, namelijk in de tunnel. We moeten wel voorkomen dat we op zoek gaan naar excuses, want dat is helemaal verkeerd als je beter wil worden. We moeten dit gewoon gaan rechtzetten."

Ik hoop dat Fred ook daadwerkelijk verbeteringen weet door te voeren. Het voelt in ieder geval beter dan de reacties van Binotto. Die gaf een fout van het team nooit toe en gaf er een draai aan. Hij bleef zijn mensen beschermen, ook als ze fout op fout stapelden. Dat stoorde mij enorm. Als het incidenten zouden zijn is het goed om te doen, maar als het structureel fout gaat moet je ingrijpen.

  Logisch dat hij ze beschermde, dat hoort elke directeur te doen. Binotto was eindverantwoordelijk. Als ze publiekelijk te kakken worden gezet durven ze al helemaal niks meer. En vooral omdat het Ferrari betreft.

  Tot op een bepaalde hoogte!
  Als ze steeds weer fouten maken moet er binnenskamers iets aan gedaan worden. Blijven de fouten dan doorgaan volgt een ontslag of als men dat niet wil doen de fouten openlijk toegeven. Leclerc is óók een werknemer en die werd hier voor de zoveelste keer de dupe van de slechte communicatie van zijn engineer.
  Vind dat Vasseur hier goed gehandeld heeft.

hij heeft ook wel eens 9 coureurs tegelijk gehinderd in Monaco en toen mocht ie gewoon vooraan starten. Het zou ook schelen als hij zelf gewoon rustig blijft en een beetje om zich heen kijkt als de sessie nog volop aan de gang is.

  Het is de taak van de race engineer om dat Charles zo duidelijk mogelijk te laten weten. Dat is niet simpelweg niet gebeurd.

  Zal best, maar dan nog moet je als coureur ook opletten. Dat is sowieso altijd handig als je in een auto zit. En ook in het leven algemeen, we hebben tegenwoordig veel slimme ondersteuning maar blijf vooral ook zelf goed opletten en nadenken.

  Opletten is één, iets ook daadwerkelijk kunnen zien is twee. En het is nu zo langzamerhand wel duidelijk dat Leclerc in die tunnel, die ook niet recht is, in die spiegeltjes Norris pas kon zien toen die er zo ongeveer bovenop zat.

Er is elke GP wel iets aan de hand bij Ferrari, ik zou het niet weten hoe je dat moet oplossen.

Iedereen eruit gooien , en opnieuw beginnen.

Begin er als coureur zelf maar mee dat als je klaar bent met je kwali-ronde. Rij dan stevig door naar de pits en niet op de racelijn. Je banden hoef je niet meer te koelen of schoon te houden.
