Brundle zag Verstappen schitteren: "Witte verf was zijn enige uitdager"

Max Verstappen heerste afgelopen weekend in Spanje. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur was veel sneller dan de concurrentie en won de race met twee vingers in de neus. Hij maakte veel indruk met zijn foutloze race en Martin Brundle stelt dat alleen de track limits Verstappen konden verslaan.

Verstappen won de Spaanse Grand Prix afgelopen weekend met een enorme voorsprong op de nummer twee Lewis Hamilton. Het was de kroon op zijn ijzersterke weekend waarin hij de snelste was in alle vrije trainingen en op zaterdag eveneens de pole position binnensleepte. Verstappen wordt nu al gezien als de enige titelfavoriet en hij oogst zeer veel lof.

Duidelijkheid

Ook oud-coureur en huidig Sky Sports-commentator Martin Brundle kan niets anders doen dan Verstappen een applaus geven. In zijn Sky Sports-column spreekt Brundle zich uit: "Buiten een verkeerd getimede Safety Car, een rode vlag, regen of betrouwbaarheidsproblemen om was het redelijk duidelijk wie er ging winnen toen de Red Bull zonder schade door de eerste chicane kwam. Hij stond op pole, leidde alle rondes en pakte de snelste ronde. Hij claimde ook nog eens de veertigste overwinning uit zijn loopbaan."

Witte verf

Verstappen reed de hele race aan de leiding en maakte zich in de slotfase zelfs nog druk over de snelste ronde. Ondanks waarschuwingen voor track limits ging hij er nog vol voor. Brundle kan er wel om lachen: "De enige uitdager van de Red Bull was de witte verf. Hij had drie keer de track limits overschreden en kreeg daarom de waarschuwingsvlag, terwijl hij zich blijkbaar alleen op zijn eigen zaken concentreerde. Dat houdt in dat hij er opnieuw met het kampioenschap vandoor gaat."

Ik deel de mening van een deskundige die nabij Max is en erover kan oordelen.

Nog een paar van die Britse omgeslagen positivo's en Damon Hill heeft ook heel voorzichtig het 'lef' om iets positiefs over Verstappen te zeggen. Zolang het zijn baantje maar niet kost...
