Ook Kobayashi waagt zich aan NASCAR-avontuur

Voor de derde keer trekt een voormalig Formule 1-coureur naar de NASCAR. In navolging van wereldkampioenen Jenson Button en Kimi Räikkönen gaat ook Kamui Kobayashi racen in de grote Amerikaanse klasse. Huidig WEC-coureur Kobayashi zal gaan rijden voor het team 23XI in Indianapolis.

Kobayashi reed een aantal seizoenen in de Formule 1 en is daarna uitgegroeid tot een icoon in het World Endurance Championship. Hij is fabriekscoureur van Toyota en zal in augustus dan ook gaan plaatsnemen achter het stuur van een Toyota Camry. Hij zal de NASCAR Cup Series gaan rijden in de Camry van 23XI met startnummer 67. Hij wordt de eerste Japanner sinds 2003 die deelneemt aan een NASCAR-race.
