Newey ziet Verstappen als de perfecte coureur

Max Verstappen is momenteel oppermachtig in de Formule 1. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur heeft een riante voorsprong in het wereldkampioenschap en won afgelopen weekend met overmacht de Spaanse Grand Prix. Red Bull-kopstuk Adrian Newey denkt dan ook dat Verstappen de perfecte coureur is.

Verstappen kan dit jaar voor het derde seizoen op rij wereldkampioen worden in de Formule 1. De Nederlandse coureur maakte wederom zeer veel indruk en is zijn teamgenoot Sergio Perez meestal te slim af. Bij Red Bull is men zeer tevreden over de prestaties van Verstappen. De Nederlander rijdt al sinds 2016 voor het team en Red Bull is zeer blij met de samenwerking.

Perfecte controle

Ook Red Bulls topontwerper Adrian Newey is blij met de samenwerking met Verstappen. De Brit geniet van het werken met Verstappen en dat steekt hij niet onder stoelen of banken. Newey wordt door Sky Sports gevraagd of hij Verstappen ziet als de perfecte coureur: "Ik denk het wel. Hij heeft een geweldige controle over zijn auto en hij heeft een soort natuurlijk talent. Toen hij bij ons binnenkwam, maakte hij misschien een paar foutjes omdat hij heel hard pushte. Nu rijdt hij echter zeer smooth en op de limiet van de auto. Hij is ook heel erg attent."

Banden

Newey kent de sterke kanten van Verstappen. De Britse ontwerper denkt dat zijn coureur vooral op één punt het verschil maakt met zijn concurrentie. Newey: "Hij heeft een enorm goed gevoel over zijn banden. Dat hebben we in de afgelopen twee jaar al in meerdere races gezien. Hij weet precies hoe hij zijn banden moet gebruiken. Hij weet goed hoe de banden zich gedragen, dat is tegenwoordig een zeer belangrijke factor."
