Ricciardo maakt in Canada debuut als televisiepresentator

Daniel Ricciardo fungeert dit jaar als de derde coureur van het team van Red Bull Racing. De Australiër heeft meer tijd over en kan zich ook focussen op andere zaken. Ricciardo zal over anderhalve week in Canada dan ook zijn debuut gaan maken als televisiepresentator.

De Amerikaanse sportzender ESPN heeft bekend gemaakt dat Ricciardo samen met de Canadese acteur Will Arnett een alternatieve show zal gaan maken omtrent de Grand Prix. Het programma 'The Grandstand with Daniel Ricciardo and Will Arnett' zal in de Verenigde Staten te zien zijn op ESPN2 terwijl de gewone uitzending van de race wordt uitgezonden op ABC. Ook in Austin en Las Vegas zullen Ricciardo en Arnett het programma gaan maken.

      Ricciardo heeft er al zin in. 'Dit wordt lachen, pas maar op. We gaan gewoon een heleboel plezier maken tijdens de show, dan voelt het hopelijk net alsof je met je vrienden gezellig bij het evenement aansluit.'

      Het concept is vrij simpel volgens de Australiër. 'We brengen veel fantastische gasten in de show, zullen flink lachen en hopelijk de fans wat dichter bij de sport brengen waar ik zo veel van houd.'

      De co-host van Ricciardo, Arnett, is vooral bekend door zijn rol in de TV-serie 'Arrested Development'. Hij deelt de passie van Ricciardo voor motor sport en hoopt zijn kennis over de Formule 1 verder uit te bouwen. 'Hoe meer ik leer over de F1, hoe meer ik verliefd raak. We gaan erg veel lol trappen tijdens de show, daar mag je wel van uit gaan.'

      'Daniel is ongelofelijk populair hier'
      Ook bij ESPN zijn ze blij met de unieke line-up voor de GP van Canada. Ricciardo is enorm populair in Noord-Amerika, mede door zijn rol in de Netflix-serie 'Drive to Survive'.

      'De Formule 1 wordt alsmaar populairder hier in Amerika. We willen de fans graag nieuwe manieren bieden om van de sport te genieten en dit is een geweldige manier om dat te doen', aldus Kate Jacksen, vice-president van productie bij ESPN.
      'Het zijn twee grappige presentatoren die ook echt expertise meebrengen. We kijken ernaar uit', zo besluit de ESPN-topvrouw.

    In het Verleden Australiërs over de vloer gehad. Voor mij 1 van de vele 'Engelse' dialecten.
    Maar in de VS wordt dat leuk gevonden. Denk zo dat het daar aan kan slaan.

    Daarbij voor Ricciardo een slimme zet. Zijn marktwaarde, bekend gezicht en sponsoring in de VS, zal sterk stijgen aangezien dan sponsoren wel een extra argument hebben om met het team waar Ricciardo voor zou rijden in zee te gaan. Poeh. Veel te lange zin. Maar jullie doen het er maar mee. Of je leest het maar niet.
