Verstappen blijft kalm: "Hopelijk rijden we een goede race"

Max Verstappen start de Canadese Grand Prix vandaag vanaf de pole position. De Nederlandse wereldkampioenschapsleider kende gisteren een ijzersterke kwalificatie en wil deze vorm ook laten zien in de Grand Prix van vandaag. Vlak voor de start van de race is Verstappen in ieder geval zeer optimistisch.

De kwalificatie op het Circuit Gilles Villeneuve werd gisteren verreden onder kletsnatte omstandigheden. Het zorgde voor een spektakelstuk met als gevolg heel veel gridstraffen. Verstappen hoefde zich niet te melden en veroverde op eenvoudige wijze de pole position. Hij wordt gezien als de grote favoriet voor de zege in de race van vandaag, zoals gewoonlijk blijft ijzig kalm.

Tijdens de gebruikelijke build-up en drivers parade was het droog in Montreal. De wolken waren donker van kleur, maar het is de verwachting dat het vandaag tijdens de Grand Prix gewoon droog blijft. Verstappen heeft het weer ook in de gaten gehouden en laat tijdens de build-up weten wat hij verwacht van de zondag in Canada: "We moeten afwachten of we in deze omstandigheden ook snel kunnen zijn. Er ligt vandaag veel minder rubber op de baan dan eerder het geval was. Hopelijk kunnen we gewoon een goede race gaan rijden."
