Domenicali waarschuwt Ferrari: "Alleen naar het verleden kijken is niet goed"

Het team van Ferrari is niet bezig met het sterkste seizoen uit hun geschiedenis. De historische Italiaanse renstal worstelt met de vorm en blijft achter in het duel met Aston Martin en Mercedes. Ze ontvangen veel kritiek en zelfs Stefano Domenicali is van mening dat ze niet in het verleden moeten blijven hangen.

Ferrari wilde dit jaar een gooi doen naar de wereldtitel, maar na een paar maanden moeten ze toch concluderen dat ze nog flinke stappen moeten zetten. Ze worstelen met de banden en coureurs Charles Leclerc en Carlos Sainz laten ook nog regelmatig een steekje vallen. Het zorgt ervoor dat naast Red Bull Racing, nu ook Mercedes en Aston Martin sneller zijn.

Toekomst

Formule 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali was in het verleden de teambaas van Ferrari en ziet de problemen van zijn voormalige werkgever. In de Beyond the Grid-podcast laat hij weten trots te zijn op de renstal: "Het is belangrijk dat Ferrari in de Formule 1 en in de toekomst blijft geloven en dat ze zoveel mogelijk blijven investeren. Er zijn andere historische teams die op het moment heel erg sterk zijn in de Formule 1."

Verleden

Domenicali ziet echter ook dat niet alles op rolletjes loopt bij Ferrari. De Italiaanse Formule 1 CEO waarschuwt ze dan ook voor toekomstige fouten: "Wat ik kan delen met mijn vrienden van Ferrari, is dat alleen naar het verleden kijken om zo een goede fundering voor de toekomst in te schatten, een verkeerde keuze is. Je moet de mythe wel in leven houden en blijven denken dat de Formule 1 altijd een rol gaat spelen in hun toekomst. Ik hoop dat dat ook gaat gebeuren, want ik zie het niet voor mij hoe Ferrari géén onderdeel kan zijn van de Formule 1."
