Wolff kijkt uit naar thuisrace: "Circuit past beter bij onze auto dan in Canada"

Het team van Mercedes heeft in de afgelopen weken stappen in de juiste richting gezet. In Monaco introduceerde het team een nieuw updatepakket en sindsdien gaat het steeds beter en beter met de Duitse renstal. Teambaas Toto Wolff kijkt reikhalzend uit naar het raceweekend en denkt dat de Red Bull Ring beter past bij de auto dan in Montreal het geval was.

Mercedes begon op een zeer tegenvallende wijze aan het huidige seizoen. Al tijdens het openingsweekend in Bahrein kondigde het team een groot updatepakket aan en in Monaco reden Lewis Hamilton en George Russell voor het eerst met de nieuwe onderdelen. De updates lijken naar wens te functioneren, in Spanje stonden beide coureurs op het podium en in Canada werd Hamilton derde.

Thuisrace

Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff heeft enorm veel zin in het aanstaande raceweekend in Oostenrijk. Wolff kent het circuit goed en legt zijn gevoelens uit in een de vooruitblik van Mercedes: "Oostenrijk is altijd een speciaal raceweekend. Het is mijn thuisrace en ik heb goede herinneringen aan het circuit. Ik heb mijn eerste jaren in de racerij hier doorgebracht als instructeur. Het is ook het weekend van de tweede sprint van het seizoen. Het wordt interessant om te zien wat de impact daarvan is op een traditioneel circuit."

Momentum

Wolff kent de redelijk korte en uitdagende lay-out van de Red Bull Ring dus als zijn broekzak. De Mercedes-teambaas denkt dat zijn coureurs goed kunnen gaan scoren op het circuit: "We willen op ons momentum, dat we in de afgelopen twee races hebben opgebouwd, verder gaan bouwen en het positieve traject met onze auto een vervolg geven. Het is een baan die beter past bij de W14 dan het circuit in Canada, maar we gaan niet te vroeg juichen. Zoals altijd gaan we daarvoor zo hard mogelijk werken om goede resultaten te bereiken."

Mss gaat het hier goed Toto, maar je vergeet Redbull (lees Max) en Fernando.
Maar hopelijk gaan Lewis en vriend George roet in het eten gooien......op sportief vlak dan hé.
Ik verwacht dan ook minimaal een Mercedesrijder op het podium.

Verwacht zondag een leuke race. Ik verwacht het nodige van Ferrari en van AM en MB, helemaal als de laatste 2 de bandjes in de juiste "window" krijgen, Ferrari loopt altijd wel lekker in Oostenrijk.

  Mooi voor Morgan (en zijn familie) dat Mercedes het nog tijdig heeft kunnen regelen. Wat mij betreft mag dat wel een zege opleveren (wie weet lukt het bij de sprint) voor ze en die dan opdragen aan deze jongeman.
