De Vries wil scoren: "Ik vind de sprint wel leuk"

Nyck de Vries gaat aankomend weekend in Oostenrijk op jacht naar zijn eerste WK-punten van het huidige seizoen. De Nederlandse AlphaTauri-coureur staat onder grote druk, maar wil het hoofd koel houden. Op de Red Bull Ring wil hij presteren en kijkt hij vooral uit naar de sprint op de zaterdag.

Op de Red Bull Ring werken de heren coureurs dit weekend weer een sprint af. Voor De Vries is het de ideale kans om voor het eerst in 2023 punten te pakken voor het wereldkampioenschap. Hij kende geen goede start van het seizoen, is langzamer dan zijn teamgenoot Yuki Tsunoda en bij teameigenaar Red Bull bestaat er twijfel over zijn toekomst bij het team.

Uitdagingen

De Vries zelf houdt het hoofd koel. In Spielberg wil hij op de Red Bull Ring gaan scoren. De Nederlander heeft zich goed voorbereid en spreekt zich uit in een persbericht van zijn team: "Spielberg is een kort circuit, maar het is moeilijker dan het er uit ziet. Je kan veel tijd verliezen als je een foutje maakt en het is een circuit waar je zeker goed moet remmen. Het heeft veel rechte stukken, maar er zijn ook vier razendsnelle bochten. Als je zoekt naar het ultieme performancelevel, dan is het niet zo moeilijk. Je wilt meer vleugel hebben, maar je hebt ook een pakket nodig waar je goed mee kan racen."

Sprint

De Vries heeft daarnaast ook veel zin in het sprintweekend. In de sprint op de zaterdag kan hij immers ook op jacht gaan naar punten: "Het is een sprintweekend en dat zorgt voor meer uitdagingen omdat je minder track time hebt. Ik vind de sprints eigenlijk wel leuk, het is cool op een extra race te hebben. Je kan dan eerst dingen gaan leren voor de race van zondag en het is leuker voor de fans."
