Haas blij met puntenscore ondanks teleurstellend Oostenrijks Grand Prix-weekend

De F1-racerij op de Red Bull Ring bracht een aantal ups, maar vooral ook wat downs voor het team van Haas. Nico Hulkenberg kon dankzij twee sterke kwalificatiesessies en een puntenscore bij de sprintrace wat positiefs namens de Amerikaanse renstal uit Spielberg meenemen, maar verder was er voor het team onder leiding van Guenther Steiner vooral veel om te vergeten.

Nico Hulkenberg wist een P4-startplaats voor de sprintrace te behalen, en deed ook met een P8-kwalificatie voor de Grand Prix op zondag goede zaken. Zijn kwalificatie voor de sprint wist de Duitse F1-veteraan tot kampioenschapsunten te verzilveren, maar was bij de Grand Prix de enige uitvaller. "Dankzij de DNF hebben we weinig data om met ons mee te nemen, en dus wordt ons werk voor de komende races lastiger gemaakt. Desondanks moeten we roeien met de riemen die we hebben", besluit Hulkenberg.

Haas-baas Guenther Steiner ziet de puntenscore als een lichtpuntje op wat anders een Grand Prix-weekend is om te vergeten, meent hij: "Gelukkig konden we gisteren (zaterdag, sprintrace) wat punten bemachtigen. Vandaag (zondag, Grand Prix) was een grote teleurstelling voor ons. De auto van Nico (Hulkenberg) had opnieuw grote problemen met de krachtbron, en het is overduidelijk dat onze auto in droge omstandigheden niet snel genoeg is", concludeert Steiner.

Terwijl Hulkenberg zijn team wat positiefs op de Red Bull Ring kon brengen, was Kevin Magnussen het gehele weekend vrijwel onzichtbaar. De Deense coureur meent maar al te graag verder naar volgende week te willen kijken: "Ik had totaal geen pace. De Vries drukte mij bij bocht zes de grindbak in, en daardoor is de vloer misschien beschadigd geraakt. Daar moeten we ons nog even op focussen, maar desondanks was het kansloze race", sluit Magnussen af.

Sommige Saits hebben Haas bij de Losers geschaald...

Drie hele belangrijke punten op Zaterdag dat ik, met de updates van Mclaren en over het algemeen snellere Alpine... zie ik dat Alfa Romeo en Alpha Tauri de aankomende tijd niet meer doen.

Williams heeft denk ik nog een grote kans bij Monza en Mexico.

Ik zou dus ook zeggen dat het weekend gemaximaliseerd is door Haas.
