Domenicali ziet Duitse Grand Prix wel zitten: "Die markt is voor ons heel belangrijk"

De Formule 1-kalender heeft in de afgelopen jaren een flinke metamorfose ondergaan. Er zijn veel nieuwe Grands Prix bijgekomen en er zijn een aantal klassieke races verdwenen van de kalender verdwenen. Vooral de afwezigheid van de Duitse Grand Prix zorgt voor ontevredenheid, maar Stefano Domenicali staat open voor een comeback.

In 2019 werd er voor het laatst een officiële Duitse Grand Prix verreden op de Hockenheimring. Een jaar later werd er tijdens de coronacrisis ook nog gereden op de Nürburgring, maar die wedstrijd werd niet verreden onder de noemer van de Duitse Grand Prix. Met twee iconische circuits lijkt het land een goede toevoeging voor de kalender te zijn, maar een comeback lijkt niet tot de mogelijkheden te behoren.

Liefdadigheidsinstelling

Formule 1-CEO Stefano Domenicali denkt daar echter anders over. De Italiaan zou de Duitse Grand Prix graag zien terugkeren op de kalender. In gesprek met de krant Bild am Sonntag legt Domenicali de zaakjes uit: "We vragen echt geen 100 miljoen euro om een Grand Prix te kunnen organiseren. Aan de andere kant, we zijn ook geen liefdadigheidsinstelling. Een Grand Prix moet het ook vanuit ons perspectief waard zijn."

Domenicali ziet de komst van een Duitse Grand Prix dus wel zitten. De Italiaan zou graag in gesprek gaan met de lokale politiek en ziet voor de toekomst mogelijkheden: "Als bondskanselier Olaf Scholz of de verantwoordelijke minister ervoor open staat, dan ben ik altijd bereikbaar. Ik wil graag een goede financiering zien om Duitsland weer een Grand Prix-land te maken. Die markt is voor ons heel belangrijk, vooral omdat Audi in 2026 de sport betreedt."

Stel, en het is zeer goed mogelijk, Max wint 6 titels of meer, en na hem is er weer een Nederlandse coureur succesvol in de F1, zou je dan dezelfde massale aandacht en bijna aanbidding krijgen?

tja ,..... het draait uiteindelijk wel om de centjes , en Duitsland zou belangrijk zijn omdat Audi toe gaat treden?? tja Mercedes hoort natuurlijk bij het FIA meubilair ....

Na al die jaren vraag ik me nog steeds af waarom Seb de Duitsers nooit zo enthousiast heeft gekregen voor F1 dan Schumacher. Nu vind ik Schumi als coureur (uiteraard) veel sterker en charismatischer dan Vettel, maar Seb deed het in die TR/RBR jaren helemaal niet verkeerd. Een jonge, enthousiaste, bruisende persoonlijkheid die een aantal records deed sneuvelen. Vlotte verschijning, vlotte babbel, veel humor en hij liet geregeld mooie dingen zien op de baan. In combinatie met red Bull leek het ook marketing technisch een 'match made in heaven', wat mij betreft. En toch, toch, kreeg hij de Duitse fans niet in extase of in grote getale naar het circuit, zoals bij Schumi. Wonderlijk best wel, vind ik.

  Vettel had in zijn hoogtijdagen iets irritants aan hem hangen. Ik kan niet helemaal beschrijven wat het is, het was niet zozeer de arrogantie (Schumi had dat ook), maar meer het gevoel dat Seb het allemaal niet zo serieus nam en z'n lange vinger naar alles opstak. Ik wil niet zeggen dat dat terecht is (Seb was een hele harde werker met een hoop passie voor de sport), maar het gaat om het gevoel dat blijft hangen. Hij had bij lange na niet het charisma dat Schumacher uitstraalde. En ik denk ook dat Duitsers over het algemeen liever een serieus, gefocust persoon zien als Schumi, dan een lolbroek als Seb.

Snap niet dat de grote duitse autoindustrie niet gezamenlijk een paar knaken op tafel legt om een GP mogelijk te maken. Kost ze zo maar een fractie van hun reclamebudget.
