De Vries wil scoren op bekend terrein: "Onmogelijk om te zeggen"

Nyck de Vries gaat aankomend weekend in Silverstone op jacht naar zijn eerste WK-punten van het huidige seizoen. De Nederlandse AlphaTauri-coureur heeft is bezig met een lastig seizoen, maar heeft veel vertrouwen in een goed resultaat in Groot-Brittannië. Hij geeft aan dat hij het circuit zeer goed kent.

De Vries blijft vooralsnog ver achter bij zijn AlphaTauri-teamgenoot Yuki Tsunoda. De Nederlandse coureur staat onder grote druk, bij teameigenaar hebben ze zich al meerdere keren zeer kritisch uitgesproken over zijn positie bij het team. Volgens sommigen is het nog maar de vraag of De Vries het seizoen wel kan gaan afmaken of dat men hem gaat vervangen.

Ervaring

De Vries zelf kijkt op een positieve manier vooruit naar de Britse Grand Prix. Hij kent de baan goed en legt dat uit in een persbericht van zijn team AlphaTauri: "Ik ken Silverstone heel erg goed. Ik heb er in de opstapklassen gereden en zelfs in het World Endurance Championship was ik hier actief. Het is een enorm snelle baan, misschien zelfs één van de snelste op de kalender, en er zijn veel snelle bochten. Met deze snelheden kan de wind een grote rol gaan spelen aangezien het circuit zeer vlak en open is. Het weer kan ook heel erg onvoorspelbaar zijn."

Onmogelijk

De Vries durft echter nog geen voorspellingen te doen over zijn kansen in Silverstone. De Nederlandse AlphaTauri-coureur is er zeer eerlijk over: "Iedereen vraagt altijd of dit circuit bij onze auto past, maar als je kijkt naar het middenveld dan is het onmogelijk om te zeggen of je sterk bent hier. De marges zijn enorm klein dus de manier waarop je iets uitvoert, is van belang. Als je een foutloos weekend hebt, kan je dichterbij de punten komen."

"Ik ken Silverstone heel erg goed.

Dat hoor je nu net niet te zeggen voordat de race gereden is. Als ie nu niets laat zien en wederom achter Tsunoda eindiigt is het zowieso over en uit.
