Verstappen maakt zich niet druk: "Ik heb niets te bewijzen"

Max Verstappen gaat dit weekend in Silverstone op jacht naar nieuwe successen. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur zal dat gaan doen in het hol van de leeuw. Hij is immers niet bepaald populair bij de Britse racefans. Verstappen maakt zich er niet druk om en geeft aan dat hij niets te bewijzen heeft.

Verstappen vocht in 2021 een fel titelduel uit met de Britse Mercedes-superster Lewis Hamilton. Het duel ging de hele wereld over en zorgde voor een enorm rivaliteit tussen de twee coureurs, hun teams en hun fans. Verstappen is dan ook niet zo populair bij de Britse fans, dat werd vorig jaar duidelijk toen hij meerdere keren werd uitgefloten door het aanwezige publiek.

Thuisrace

Dit weekend wil Verstappen de race gewoon weer gaan winnen. Het maakt niet zoveel uit voor wie de fans juichen, zo deelt hij met de internationale media: "Ik weet niet of het publiek tegen mij is. Het voelt ook niet als een uitwedstrijd, want het is ook onze eigen thuisrace. Ik breng veel tijd door in onze fabriek in Milton Keynes, dus dit is een belangrijke race voor het team en we genieten ervan. Ik vind niet dat ik mij hier moet bewijzen aan het publiek. Ik ga proberen te winnen."

Verstappen denkt dan ook dat zijn team in staat is om de Britse Grand Prix te winnen. De Red Bull is al het hele seizoen enorm dominant, maar een aantal concurrenten introduceren dit weekend wel updates. Verstappen: "Over het algemeen denk ik dat we hier sterk zullen zijn. Een paar teams nemen namelijk updates mee, dus we moeten even afwachten hoever ze erop vooruit gaan. We kijken er vanuit onze kant in ieder geval nar uit. Onze auto is tot nu toe heel goed geweest in de snelle bochten, daar heb je er hier best veel van."

tot nu toe is het in Zandvoort gelukkig heel flink meegevallen wat betreft het uitjouwen van Hamilton. Dit in tegenstelling tot Monza, Miami, Sao Paulo en Silverstone wat het uitjouwen van Verstappen betreft.
