Alonso 'niet al te gestrest' over recentelijke performancedip Aston Martin

Voor het tweede opeenvolgende Grand Prix-weekend heeft het Formule 1-team van Aston Martin geen podiumplaats weten te scoren. De recentelijke resultaten vormen een groot contrast in vergelijking met de zes behaalde podiumplaatsen voor Alonso, waarbij de laatste dateert van de Canadese Grand Prix. Maar bezorgd is de Spanjaard niet over de huidige tekortkomingen van zijn team.

Fernando Alonso wist samen met zijn nieuwe werkgever Aston Martin vele podiumfinishes te bemachtigen. De tweevoudig wereldkampioen eindigde maar liefst zesmaal in de top drie – maar de afgelopen twee races, namelijk op de Red Bull Ring en Silverstone – kwam Alonso niet verder dan een vijfde en zevende eindplaats. De Spanjaard laat weten juist een positief gevoel vanuit Engeland mee te nemen, aangezien de afgelopen twee Grands Prix volgens hem niet bij de karakteristieken van de AMR23-bolide passen.

"Deze race (Silverstone) en Oostenrijk waren onze slechtste weekenden tot nu toe, en daar hebben we redelijk de schade weten te herstellen. Een aantal andere teams hebben grote upgrades meegenomen, en ons pakket paste niet goed bij de lay-out van Silverstone. Over het geheel hebben we denk ik een lastig Grand Prix-weekend redelijk weten te herstellen, en hopelijk zijn we in Hongarije weer sterk."

Alonso laat weten dat het mooi was om een dubbel Brits podium op Silverstone te zien, en meent zich niet al te bezorgd te maken over de positieverwisselingen van teams. "Ik ben blij om Lando (Norris) en Lewis (Hamilton) op het podium te zien, en we gaan meemaken of we in Hongarije weer terug naar het oude niveau kunnen komen."

"Om eerlijk te zijn ben ik niet al te gestrest over de ontwikkelingen. De auto van ons is nog altijd beter dan we vooraf hadden gedacht, en we vechten voor resultaten waar we aan het begin van dit seizoen waarschijnlijk niet eens van hadden kunnen dromen", sluit Alonso tevreden af.

Zo is dat. Er komt nog een Mercedes update aan en aangezien die toch niet werken staan ze daarmee al achter de AM.
McLaren is goed in de snelle bochten maar zal in Hongarije wel wat minder sterk zijn.
Alpine was sterk in Monaco maar is weer op de aloude en bekende “we glijden steeds verder af maar het ligt niet aan ons” toer waarmee alleen Ferrari als grootste concurrent achter RB overblijft.
In de F1 moeten er echter ook verplicht pitstops gemaakt worden waarmee Ferrari automatisch zichzelf weer zal uitschakelen dus een podium voor Fernando moet gewoon mogelijk zijn.

  Wat betreft Ferrari hebben ze inderdaad nog een extra concurrent, namelijk Ferrari. Het blijft een kunst om te zien hoe vaak die zichzelf in de voet schieten.

"Ik ben blij om Lando (Norris) en Lewis (Hamilton) op het podium te zien, echter doet het mij altijd het meeste deugd om Max (Verstsppen) op een hoger treedje te zien staan dam Lewis (Hamilton)"
