Alonso: "Nieuwe fabriek toont ambtitie Aston Martin"

Twee jaar. Dat heeft het volgens Fernando Alonso nodig voordat zijn team Aston Martin het maximale uit de net geopende fabriek haalt.

Eigenaar Lawrence Stroll windt er geen doekjes om met zijn splinksplinternieuwe faciliteiten. Het megacomplex moet er voor zorgen dat een winnende auto gebouwd wordt. Alles zit nu onder een dak: marketing, productie en ontwerp. De tweede windtunnel wordt in 2024 operationeel.

De tweevoudig kampioen is onder de indruk van het bouwwerk. "Het was fascinerend om de faciliteiten te zien, de mensen daar in dezelfde kamer, die onze eigen onderdelen van de auto vervaardigen", zei Alonso, opgetekend door ​​​​Speedcafe.

Volgens de Spanjaard zal alles soepeler verlopen dankzij één huisvesting. "Tot nu toe maakten derden onze auto, ons chassis en alles. Het is een stap vooruit. Maar ik denk dat we een paar jaar nodig hebben om alles te regelen en het potentieel te maximaliseren."

Alonso ziet duidelijk dat Stroll de sport serieus neemt en er alles aan doet om de top te bereiken met zijn renstal. "Het toont duidelijk de ambitie van Aston Martin en we moeten trots zijn."

    Ai, dat klinkt niet hoopgevend, als je niets positiefs over de auto kunt zeggen begin je pas over randzaken als een fabriek...

      Gister riep ik in een ander draadje nog dat ik denk dat AM steeds wat verder wegzakt en de ontwikkeling simpelweg onvoldoende bij kan houden. En ja... hun auto past goed bij Hongarije en Singapore maar overall gaan ze meer achteruit dan vooruit. Ik vind dat je dit de laatste 2 races al heel goed kon zien.
      Daar waar Alonso op het podium de eerste paar races nog bijna een zekerheid was, daar is dat momenteel bijna een uitzondering geworden.

      Klopt, zet ook al een tijdje vraagtekens bij het doorontwikkelen van AM, hoop dat ze nog wat in de pijplijn hebben...

    Dit is nieuw voor mij. Iemand die hier wat extra context over kan geven? Of bedoelt Alonso dat de nieuwe faciliteiten los staan van de oude en dat de auto nog in de oude faciliteiten gemaakt worden? Maar dan is het nog steeds hetzelfde team, als zie ik Alonso er ook wel voor aan dat hij dit niet helemaal snapt aangezien hij een geschiedenis heeft van het niet begrijpen van hoe de organisatie in een team werkt.

      Ze hadden iig een eigen fabriek, en ze hebben nu een nieuwe gebouwd. Dus dat is waar Alonso het waarschijnlijk over heeft. Wat de Spanjaard deelt qua organisatorische inzichten kan in de regel idd weinig waarde aan gehecht worden en hij weet zeer waarschijnlijk gewoon niet hoe dat bij zijn eigen team werkt. Hij denkt waarschijnlijk ook dat hij voor het fabrieksteam van Aston Martin rijdt.

    Ze verliezen op de straat auto's die ze verkopen, althans Lawrence 1.5 Miljoen/ per dag, ben benieuwd hoe dat gaat aflopen.

    Over welke 2e windtunnel gaat dit hier, AM is op heden afhankelijk van die van MB omdat ze er zelf geen hebben.

    Team principal Mike Krack, however, feels Aston Martin has to hit the ground running.
    The team is currently fighting for second in the F1 constructors’ championship following a stellar first half of the season, at least from Fernando Alonso who has scored six podiums in 10 grands prix.
    It could be argued the transition from one factory to another has been a major distraction for a team that currently trails Mercedes by just 22 points in the standings

    Asked as to how long any bedding-in period would take, Krack replied:
    "I would be lying if I gave a number, how many weeks or how many months.
    The time we have is zero, basically. We have to get into it immediately. The move should never serve as an excuse.
    We knew we had to move once we took this decision, and we have to be the best with it, without looking for excuses."
