Ricciardo voelt zich na twee trainingssessies al '95% comfortabel'

Kersverse AlphaTauri-coureur Daniel Ricciardo zegt zich al heel comfortabel in zijn AT04-bolide te voelen. De Australiër maakt dit weekend zijn herstart binnen de Formule 1 door, en denkt na nog maar twee vrije trainingen afgewerkt te hebben zich al zo'n 95% comfortabel te voelen.

Daniel Ricciardo kreeg zijn wens om terug naar de Formule 1 te keren al snel vervuld. Bij een tegenvallende Nyck de Vries,werd de achtvoudig Grand Prix-winnaar opgeroepen om naast Yuki Tsunoda het 2023-seizoen af te gaan maken. Zijn eerste Grand Prix-weekend sinds zijn terugkomst is die van Hongarije, en de start ervan heeft de voormalig teamgenoot van Max Verstappen in ieder geval goed afgewerkt, laat Ricciardo weten.

"Ik voelde me vandaag al snel comfortabel. Maar met comfortabel bedoel ik voor 95 procent. De laatste beetjes kan ik voor mijn gevoel morgen al vinden, of er in ieder geval dichtbij komen. Voor mijn gevoel kon ik vandaag (vrijdag) nog geen goede ronde aan elkaar knopen omdat ik de grenzen van de auto begon te voelen. Morgen is het een kwestie van de boel heen houden. Daarmee zou ik heel tevreden zijn."

"Het voelde eigenlijk best normaal om weer terug in de auto te zitten. Vanochtend (VT1) had ik volgens mij maar één droge ronde, maar alleen al na die ene ronde dacht ik 'dit is lekker, dit voelt goed.' S’ middags was de eerste set mediums niet slecht, en op de softs was ik nog druk aan het leren."

"Over het algemeen voelde alles goed aan. Tuurlijk zijn er dingen waar ik aan moet gaan werken, maar daar ben ik niet zo bezorgd over. Alles voelde eigenlijk zoals normaal. Tuurlijk hangt er veel aandacht rondom mijn terugkomst, maar op het moment dat ik mijn helm weer op deed, voelde het eigenlijk alsof ik nooit echt weg ben gegaan."

Ik hoop van harte dat hij het redt. Vind het altijd mooi als het iemand lukt zichzelf weer terug te vinden en knokken na een lastige periode. Die overwinning op zichzelf gun ik hem en daarmee als vanzelf ook succes en een RB-stoeltje. We zullen zien hoe het loopt.

Het zou mij verbazen als hij in de kwalificatie sneller is dan Yuki, die de AT al langer rijdt en weet hoe de auto zich gedraagt.

  Exact, deze twee races voor de zomer zijn leuk om er een beetje in te komen. Pas na de zomer kun je meer van hem verwachten en dan zal hij Tsunoda toch moeten zien te verslaan.

  Vind het nog altijd jammer dat de vries gewipt is, maar hoop in elk geval dat Ricciardo het niet beter gaat doen.

  Je mag van iemand met 11 1/2 jaar rij ervaring in de F1 absoluut verwachten dat hij beter presteert dan iemand die slechts 10 races ervaring in een F1 wagen heeft @Audi.

  Ik ben verbaasd. Hij was sneller dan Yuki. Maar hij heeft er eerlijk voor gereden, dus petje af dat hij zo snel de auto in de vingers heeft. Maar ik denk wel dat er meer in zat voor Yuki.
