McLaren wil Palou en O'Ward voor vrije training inzetten

Het staat nog niet zwart op wit, maar de kans is groot dat de CEO van McLaren, Zak Brown, IndyCar-rijders Alex Palou en Pato O'Ward oproept na hun seizoen om een vrije training te rijden tijdens een Grand Prix-weekend.

"We hebben nog geen definitieve beslissing genomen, maar we moeten rookies opstellen in de vrije training. Na de IndyCar-finale in september op Laguna Seca, zie je de twee in de Formule 1", zei de Amerikaan in Speedweek.com.

Brown werd gevraagd of ze beiden kans van slagen hebben in de koningsklasse. "Ik zie geen reden om het tegen te spreken. We hebben momenteel geen zitje beschikbaar. Ik ben er absoluut van overtuigd dat beide Formule 1-potentie hebben."

Met name Palou valt op door puike prestaties in de IndyCar dit seizoen. "Zijn vorm dit seizoen komt niet als een verrassing, maar is desalniettemin erg indrukwekkend. Hij domineert in zijn klasse, waar men normaal gesproken niet dominant kan zijn. En Pato kan ook kampioen worden."
