Verstappen blikt terug en wijst naar Miami als hoogtepunt van 2023 tot nu toe

Terwijl de Formule 1 een siësta houdt, krijgt leider van het rijdersklassement Max Verstappen de gelegenheid om terug te blikken op de eerste seizoenshelft van 2023. Hierin gaat hij kort een aantal races bij langs waar hij naar eigen zeggen met plezier op terugkijkt.

De Nederlander heeft tien van de twaalf Grands Prix in de eerste helft van 2023 gewonnen, en is van plan om ongehinderd met de dominante door te gaan. Verstappen staat momenteel 125 punten los van de rest in het wereldkampioenschap, en alleen een rampzalig scenario lijkt hem nog in de weg te staan om zijn derde opeenvolgende titel op naam te schrijven.

Nu de koningsklasse haar officiële zomerstop heeft, kan de Red Bull-coureur met trots op de eerste seizoenshelft terugkijken. Wat hoogtepunten betreft staan er volgens Verstappen een aantal bovenaan, maar de eerste race die de tweevoudig wereldkampioen noemt, is die van Miami.

"Er waren een aantal hele goede overwinningen, maar er zaten ook een paar bij die wat minder spectaculair waren. De race waar ik met plezier naar terugkijk is Miami. Dat is namelijk een lastig circuit, ook om door het veld te komen. Uiteindelijk hebben we na die lastige kwalificatie een goede race gereden. Dat was een plezierige race. Maar ook die van Hongarije en Spa-Francorchamps waren goed – er zitten best wel wat leuke races bij."

  Op het moment zie je juist in kwalificatie dat Verstappen daar ook extreem goed is. Weet vaak toch P1 te halen zonder risico te nemen. En dan valt juist Monaco op omdat hij daar wel alle risico nam. Daar is het zeer belangrijk om van P1 te starten.
  
  Verstappen wordt onderschat als kwalifier naar mijn mening. Hij kiest ook nog eens negen van de tien keer voor een race afstelling. Ik vermoed dat hij dit heeft afgekeken van Hamilton die dit in de dominante periode ook deed.
  
  Ik vond ook Monaco het mooiste stukje 2023 in F1. Helemaal mee eens. Maar zeker ook om Alonso, Leclerc en Ocon, die allemaal op hun toppen presteerden.
  
  Overigens is dit interview al wat oud nieuws. Hij vertelde dat hij maar moeilijk kon kiezen.
