De Vries reageert op ontslag: "Voor alles is een tijd en een plek"

Nyck de Vries werd voorafgaand de Hongaarse Grand Prix ontslagen door zijn werkgever AlphaTauri. De Nederlandse coureur zit sindsdien thuis en zwijgt over zijn vroegtijdige Formule 1-exit. Toch is De Vries niet bij de pakken neer gaan zitten, hij geeft aan dat het goed met hem gaat en dat hij alweer plannen heeft.

De Vries kende een zeer tegenvallende periode bij het team van AlphaTauri. De Nederlander werd veelvuldig verslagen door zijn teamgenoot Yuki Tsunoda en hij wist geen enkel WK-punt te scoren. Na weken vol met kritiek vanuit de Red Bull-top werd hij aan de kant gezet en vervangen door de ervaren Daniel Ricciardo. Sindsdien is het redelijk stil rondom De Vries, al werd wel duidelijk dat het Formule E-team van Nissan interesse heeft in zijn diensten.

De Vries verbrak op donderdag zijn korte mediastilte. Hij was aanwezig bij de première van de Gran Turismo-film in Amsterdam, opvallend genoeg is Nissan betrokken bij deze verfilming van de videogame. De Vries sprak zich kort over zijn situatie uit in gesprek met Formule 1 Magazine: "Voor alles is een tijd en een plek. Het is jammer, maar that's life. Het gaat nu eigenlijk best wel goed met mij, dat is het belangrijkste. Ik ga wat uitproberen met een studie, nu het kan."

    Nyck tegen de aanwezige pers:

    De coureur gaat een cursus volgen aan het Amerikaanse Harvard University.
    "Ik heb nog nooit eerder gestudeerd in mijn leven. Sterker nog, ik heb mijn
    middelbare school niet eens afgemaakt! Maar in september ga ik een cursus
    volgen op Harvard. Negotiation and Leadership, een klein beetje studeren.
    Meer omdat ik het gewoon leuk vind nu ik wat tijd heb en de interesse heb
    om andere dingen te leren", aldus De Vries.

    Inmiddels is hier meer bekend over geworden.
    Het betreft twee keer een driedaagse cursus van resp Negotiation en Leadership.

    Je hoeft hier geen vooropleiding voor te hebben gehad.
    De cursus van drie dagen kost $5000 keer twee dus.

    "Iets uitproberen met een studie." Ik zou een cursus van zes dagen
    geen studie aan Harvard willen noemen. Klinkt heel wat!
