'Colombia was allesbehalve dichtbij organiseren Grand Prix'

Het is algemeen bekend dat er veel interesse is in het organiseren van een Grand Prix. Ook in Colombia droomde men van een plekje op de Formule 1-kalender. Er werd een plan gemaakt voor een race op een nieuw circuit in Barranquilla en volgens Juan Pablo Montoya was de deal bijna rond, het lijkt erop dat de zaakjes toch iets anders liggen.

Door de groeiende populariteit van de Formule 1 is er veel interesse vanuit landen, steden en circuits voor het organiseren van een Grand Prix. De Colombiaanse voormalig Formule 1-coureur Juan Pablo Montoya liet eerder deze week weten dat zijn thuisland op het punt stond een contract te tekenen voor een plekje op de kalender. Uiteindelijk gingen de plannen toch niet door, Montoya beweert dat de Spaanse hoofdstad Madrid de vervanger wordt van Barranquilla.

Volgens PlanetF1 liggen de zaakjes echter iets anders. Het medium meldt namelijk dat de woorden van Montoya iets te overdreven zijn. Volgens PlanetF1 heeft de Formule 1 inderdaad gesproken met de Colombianen, maar zijn deze gesprekken al snel gestrand. Wel is het zo dat Formule 1-CEO Stefano Domenicali zijn gezicht heeft laten zien in Barranquilla, maar dat leverde niets op. Het medium laat ook weten dat de beweringen van Montoya over Madrid niet kloppen.
