Domenicali looft 'toegewijde' organisatie Dutch Grand Prix

Aan het einde van deze maand gaat het Formule 1-seizoen weer verder met de Nederlandse Grand Prix op het circuit van Zandvoort. De Dutch Grand Prix is al maanden uitverkocht en veel fans kijken reikhalzend uit naar het evenement, Stefano Domenicali is lovend over de innovaties van de organisatie.

De race op het bekende circuit van Zandvoort keerde in 2021 definitief terug op de kalender. In eerste instantie stond de Grand Prix voor 2020 op de kalender, maar de coronapandemie gooide toen roet in het eten. Inmiddels is de Grand Prix in de Noord-Hollandse duinen uitgegroeid tot een populaire race, vooral de acties van de organisatie vallen in goede aarde bij de sport. Fans komen met de trein of met de fiets en er is veel entertainment te vinden rondom de baan.

Toewijding

Formule 1-CEO Stefano Domenicali is heel erg blij met de acties van de organisatie van de race op het circuit van Zandvoort. In gesprek met Motorsport.com spreekt hij zich lovend uit: "Het tekent de toewijding die iedere promotor eigenlijk moet laten zien om de kwaliteit van het evenement te verbeteren. Met de situatie rondom Max hadden ze het kunnen afwachten, dat was geen enkel probleem geweest."

De organisatie wachtte echter niet af en zorgden voor een evenement dat veel complimenten ontving van de fans, de coureurs en de teams. Ook Domenicali is blij dat men niet afwachtend reageerde: "Dat hebben ze niet gedaan en dat tekent de aandacht voor details die ze laten zien. Vanaf de eerste dag staan ze in nauw contact met mij om plannetjes uit te wisselen, te laten zien welke pakketen ze willen uitvoeren en aan welke activaties ze denken."

  Tevens ook de zwakte.
  De succesfans hebben zich meerdere malen van hun slechtste kant laten zien in gedrag.
  Als Max niet meer raced of net als HAM op posities rond rijdt is het snel gedaan.
  CPZ heeft om brake even te draaien zeker 90% bezetting nodig.
  En zonder de succesfans is het niet rendabel.

De ligging van Circuit Zandvoort maakte het onmogelijk om het circuit uit te breiden en zo de kansen op de komst van F1 te vergroten. Daardoor zette de Noord-Hollandse omloop in op bochten met banking om inhalen te stimuleren.
Zo'n creatieve aanpak kan volgens Domenicali als leidraad gelden voor andere circuits die F1 binnen willen halen.
"We hebben veel aanvragen voor Grands Prix, maar we moeten respectvol zijn en de juiste balans houden tussen traditionele races en nieuwe Grands Prix. Met een traditioneel circuit is het lastiger, omdat er beperkingen zijn waar we ons aan moeten houden. Maar natuurlijk denken we na over wat we moeten doen", legt hij uit.
"Op andere plekken waar we werken aan mogelijke nieuwe projecten voor de toekomst heeft de ervaring met Zandvoort geholpen om verschillende ideeën die we ontwikkelen vorm te geven - zoals de bochten met banking."

De Formule 1 blijft in ieder geval tot en met 2025 een bezoek brengen aan Zandvoort. Daarna loopt het contract af. Een langer verblijf is absoluut niet uitgesloten, al weet Domenicali dat de organisatie van de race moet blijven vernieuwen.
"Ik denk dat we dit jaar al gesprekken gaan hebben om na te denken over wat gedaan kan worden voor de toekomst. Er zijn veel dingen waar we over kunnen nadenken en er is druk om dingen steeds beter te doen en de lat steeds hoger te leggen. We gaan dus samen overleggen en bekijken wat voor iedereen de beste oplossing is", aldus Domenicali.
"Zandvoort is een oud circuit en het heeft traditie. Maar als deze plekken goede dingen doen, kunnen ze een toekomst en een plek in het moderne tijdperk van onze Formule 1 hebben."

  Ja duh, één keer in de twee jaar is ook een plaats op de kalender, maar niet elk jaar dus. Daar trappen "wij" Nederlanders niet in, toch @Beri...
