Hill zet kanttekening bij recordtocht Verstappen: "Je racet niet om records te breken"

Max Verstappen kan dit weekend in Zandvoort wederom een bijzonder record gaan evenaren. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur kan op gelijke hoogte komen met Sebastian Vettel, de Duitser heeft het record van de meeste zeges op rij in handen. Damon Hill denkt dat Verstappen alleen maar wil winnen en dat het breken van records niet belangrijk is.

Verstappen is bezig met een enorm indrukwekkend seizoen in de Formule 1. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur won slechts twee Grands Prix niet en heeft sinds de Grand Prix van Miami niet meer verloren. Aangezien deze reeks al eventjes bezig is, kan Verstappen in Zandvoort op gelijke hoogte komen met Vettel. De Duitser won in 2013 negen Grands Prix op rij en Verstappen kan dat dit weekend dus evenaren.

Ambitie

Verstappen heeft dit seizoen al meerdere records gebroken, maar hij lijkt zich daar niet zo druk om te maken. Enkelvoudig wereldkampioen Damon Hill begrijpt dat wel. In de F1 Nation Podcast spreekt Hill zich uit: "Je gaat niet racen met de ambitie om alle records te breken. Het winnen en het blijven winnen is wat de teams en de coureurs motiveert. Vanzelfsprekend zie je dat daarna terug in de statistieken. Dat je zolang niet wordt verslagen en je negen races op rij wint, is iets wat veel later pas een ding wordt."

Red Bull

Niet alleen Verstappen breekt dit jaar veel records, ook zijn team Red Bull Racing is op recordjacht. De Oostenrijkse renstal heeft tot nu toe alle Grands Prix gewonnen in 2023 en Hill is onder de indruk van Red Bull: "Als ze al deze records kunnen verbreken, dan kunnen ze achterover gaan leunen. Dan pas gaat iedereen denken: 'wat een geweldig resultaat'. Maar we moeten wel eerlijk zijn, ze zijn er nog niet."

    "Kanttekening" betekent kleine kritische opmerking maar in het verhaal begrijpt Hill juist de mindset van Verstappen en bevestigd zijn standpunt.

      Het is toch echt veel beter om zelf te luisteren wat Hill vertelde. Ook de verhalen hier opgetekend door de schrijvert bevatten dubieuze vertalingen. Hoe dat hier is weet ik niet. Lees al heel lang de pulp niet hier.

      Hill heeft letterlijk gezegd over het onderwerp:
      Verstappen is niet bezig met records. Waar hij wel mee bezig is om Zandvoort te winnen.
      Verder vertelde hij dat toprijders helemaal niet met records bezig zijn. Op Vettel na volgens hem. Die vond records wel mooi.

      Was trouwens best een okay podcast met uit mijn hoofd... Pffffff.... slecht in namen. De podcaster van S k y, Hill, een S k y dame (niet Tennant), en de ex performance engineer van Verstappen. Die zit steeds vaker aan bij podcasts van grote b r o a d c a s t e r s.
      Persoonlijk vermoed ik dat Hamilton wel degelijk bezig is met dat 8ste kampioenschap trouwens. Maar dat is niet meer dan een vermoeden.

    RB bekijkt elke race apart, en een logisch gevolg is dat wanneer je alle races wint, je veek records verbreekt. zo simpel is het.

    Voor Max is het niet belangrijk om records te breken, het is een bijkomstigheid een bonus, een winnaar wilt altijd winnen en zal niet bijven zeuren van een gemiste kans.

      Uiteraard wilt hij wel records breken,en winnen.komt op hetzelfde neer,maar hij houd bewust de druk daar van weg,maar reken maar dat als er (weer) 1 in beeld komt hij hem graag ´pakt´.
