Leclerc reageert op contractgeruchten: "Voor 200 miljoen teken ik direct!"

Charles Leclerc beschikt momenteel over een Ferrari-contract tot en met het einde van 2024. Het lijkt er sterk op dat de Monegask gewoon aanblijft bij Ferrari, eerder gingen er dan ook al geruchten rond over een megacontract ter waarde van 200 miljoen euro. Leclerc kan zelf wel om deze verhalen lachen.

Leclerc en Ferrari zijn dit jaar bezig met een redelijk tegenvallend seizoen in de Formule 1. De Italiaanse renstal kan koploper Red Bull Racing amper bijhouden en moet de degens nu vooral kruisen met Mercedes, Aston Martin en McLaren. Leclerc wordt gezien als de kopman, maar hij staat in het wereldkampioenschap slechts een paar puntjes voor op zijn teamgenoot Carlos Sainz. Desalniettemin wil Leclerc dolgraag verder bij Ferrari.

Tijdens de zomerstop gingen er wilde geruchten rond over een nieuw contract voor Leclerc ter waarde van 200 miljoen dollar. In Zandvoort wordt Leclerc door de internationale media geconfronteerd met deze verhalen, hij kan er vooral om lachen: "Ik zou willen dat ik die deal had gesloten! Dat klinkt als een top deal! Maar nee, we hebben geen deal gesloten en we hebben tijdens de zomerstop ook niet gesproken. Op een gegeven moment zullen we zeker met elkaar in gesprek gaan."

Intenties

Leclerc is duidelijk over zijn toekomstplannen, hij ziet het momenteel niet zitten om zijn broodheer te verlaten. De Monegask is al zeer lang onderdeel van de Ferrari-familie en voelt zich goed: "Mijn intenties zijn duidelijk, maar van het team weet ik het nog niet. Ik maak mij nu niet zoveel zorgen, het heeft niet de prioriteit. We willen zoveel mogelijk uit de auto halen om terug te keren naar het punt waar we vorig jaar stonden. Aan het einde van het seizoen gaan we met elkaar in gesprek."
