Brown ziet onverslaanbare Verstappen: "Tweede plaats is dus geweldig"

Het team van McLaren heeft een zeer sterke kwalificatie op het circuit van Zandvoort achter de rug. De Britse renstal wilde Red Bull Racing en Max Verstappen uitdagen, maar dat lukte ze net niet. Verstappen pakte de pole voor Lando Norris. McLaren-bons Zak Brown is tevreden met het resultaat.

Norris en zijn teamgenoot Oscar Piastri kwamen vrijwel de gehele kwalificatie goed mee met de rest van de koplopers. In de slotminuten leek het er zelfs eventjes op dat beide coureurs konden gaan meestrijden om de pole position, maar Verstappen was uiteindelijk een halve seconde sneller. Piastri zag dat een aantal andere coureurs ook flink doorreden en daardoor moest hij genoegen nemen met de achtste plaats.

Dubbele podiumscore

McLaren CEO Zak Brown was zeker niet teleurgesteld over het resultaat in de Nederlandse kwalificatie. De Amerikaanse CEO is in zijn nopjes en hoopt zelfs op een dubbele podiumscore voor de race van morgen. In gesprek met het Britse Sky Sports is hij duidelijk: "We zijn hier tevreden mee. We zijn bezig met een sterk weekend, dat geldt voor zowel Lando als voor Oscar. Er zat nog meer in Lando's auto, maar zes tienden konden ze zeker niet vinden. De tweede plaats is dus een geweldig resultaat."

Piastri

Ondanks zijn crash in de tweede vrije training en de achtste plaats in de kwalificatie, maakt ook rookie Piastri een goede indruk op Brown. De CEO steekt zijn jonge coureur dan ook een hart onder de riem: "Oscar is al het hele weekend extreem snel. Hij kwam hier echter iets te kort. Maar, het feit dat we beide auto's nogal comfortabel in de top tien hebben rondrijden, geeft ons vertrouwen voor de race van morgen."

Er zat nog meer in Lando's auto, maar zes tienden konden ze zeker niet vinden......dus er was niX meer,dan zittr togny meer in,of bennik naw gek.......(Jah,..dat wist de Family al toen ik net geboren was)

Niettemin,McLaren maakt het wel spannender zo,....en Lando kan goed starten....die komt vaak goe vande plek.....

  Helemaal mee eens Mr. Marly.
  Het is weer leuk om naar Mclaren te kijken, ondanks dat ze nog geen races kunnen winnen.
  Deze positie biedt perspectief voor de toekomst, ze zijn duidelijk de goede weg in geslagen.
  Ben benieuwd naar volgend jaar!

Ik denk dat de crew nog het meest tevreden is, als ze een 1&2 hadden gepakt zaten ze nu allemaal in het ziekenhuis met een gebroken schouder door Zak zijn high-five's
