Verstappen denkt niet aan records: "Ik wil gewoon winnen"

Max Verstappen gaat zometeen op jacht naar zijn derde zege op rij op het circuit van Zandvoort. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur start de Grand Prix vanaf de pole position en geldt als de grote favoriet voor de zege. Verstappen kan tevens het record van de meeste zeges op rij evenaren, maar daar maakt hij zich niet druk om.

Verstappen kent tot nu toe een goed raceweekend in Zandvoort. In de vrije trainingen kwam hij aardig voor de dag en pakte hij de pole position met een flinke voorsprong op zijn concurrenten. Hoe alles zal gaan in de race, is vanzelfsprekend nog giswerk. Als Verstappen de Grand Prix op zijn naam kan schrijven, dan evenaart hij het record van Sebastian Vettel van de meeste zeges op rij. Verstappen heeft nu acht races op rij gewonnen en kan dus de negen zeges van Vettel bijhalen.

Verstappen dankte tijdens de build-up de aanwezige oranjefans op de tribune. Hij stapte van de truck af om naar de fans te zwaaien en sprak daar ook met de interviewster van de organisatie. Het evenaren van het record zit nog niet in zijn hoofd: "Ik ben hier niet voor de records, ik wil gewoon winnen voor mijn thuispubliek. Je weet nooit wat er gaat gebeuren, McLaren is al het hele weekend ijzersterk."
