Wolff wil toeslaan na frustrerend weekend in Zandvoort

Het team van Mercedes is bezig met een redelijk teleurstellend seizoen in de Formule 1. In Zandvoort wilde men toeslaan, maar een paar strategische blunders gooiden roet in het eten. Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff baalde als een stekker, maar nu heeft hij zijn pijlen gericht op een goed resultaat op het circuit van Monza.

Mercedes hoeft niet lang te wachten op een nieuwe kans. Aankomend weekend staat immers de Italiaanse Grand Prix op het iconische circuit van Monza op het programma. Bij de Duitse renstal baalt men stiekem nog steeds van de teleurstellende Nederlandse Grand Prix. Er lagen zeker kansen voor Mercedes op het circuit van Zandvoort, maar strategische fouten in de regen zorgden voor een zeer teleurstellend resultaat.

Frustratie

Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff geeft eerlijk toe dat hij na afloop van de Nederlandse Grand Prix niet tevreden was. In zijn vooruitblik op de Italiaanse Grand Prix kijkt hij namelijk eerst kort terug op de afgelopen race: "In Zandvoort hadden we een frustrerend weekend. Er was zeker potentie, maar we kregen het er niet uit. We maakten de verkeerde keuze toen we moesten stoppen voor de inters, hierdoor groeide onze achterstand. Daarna moesten we de schade beperken. Allebei de coureurs herstelden zich goed, maar daarna hadden we ook nog de lekke band van George."

Monza

Wolff probeert wel van elk nadeel een voordeel te maken. De Oostenrijkse teambaas stelt dat een tegenvallend raceweekend alleen maar voor een ander beter weekend kan zorgen: "Er zijn genoeg dingen die we kunnen leren voor de volgende race. Gelukkig hoeven we daar niet op te wachten. De baan in Monza is echt compleet anders dan het circuit in Zandvoort. We zullen dus wel zien hoe het gaat. De sfeer zal zeker weer spectaculair zijn."

Ik denk dat Toto vooral wil toeslaan in de plaatselijke pizzeria, op de baan komt Mercedes toch nog teveel tekort

Vraag me echt af hoe vaak men echt in staat was Verstappen fair and square te stoppen dit jaar.
Perez deed het 2 maal, maar had pech in kwalificatie nodig en een ongelukkige safety car. Maar dat waren faire overwinningen.
Vervolgens Monaco waar Alonso met een keuze voor inters voor Verstappen was gekomen.
En dan in Zandvoort op het laatst was door een zwak puntje van Red Bull, opwarmen van de banden, een mogelijke kans voor Alonso.
2 maal team genoot. 2 maal Alonso. Heb dit jaar nog niet een kans gezien van Mercedes. Verwacht het ook niet in Italië.

  Wolff heeft het ook over een goed resultaat en niet over winnen. Wel eens met je betoog overigens. Voor de overwinning heeft Mercedes nog niet meegedaan (of je moet de rode vlag herstart in Australië meerekenen, maar dat was niet "on merit").

  Ah ja. Dat is mijn fout, Cyrus. Ik vind de verhalen hier dermate tragisch geschreven dat ik ze niet meer lees.
  
  Excuses en ik neem het terug. Podiums zitten er bij Mercedes altijd in. Zijn gemiddeld het tweede team.

Het bruinvissen was weer aardig terug bij Mercedes, daar zullen ze op Monza ook weer aardig last van hebben denk ik.
