Perez trots: "Beste vrijdag in een lange tijd"

Sergio Perez sloot zijn vrijdag op het circuit van Monza af in de grindbak. De Mexicaanse Red Bull Racing-coureur spinde in de bekende Parabolica en werd daarna een ridder te voet. De spin van Perez zorgde voor een aantal zure gezichten bij Red Bull, maar Perez zelf was positief gestemd.

Aan het einde van de tweede vrije training bevond Perez zich in de grindbak bij Parabolica. Hij ging wijd en belandde daardoor in het grind. Hij probeerde zijn weg te vervolgen, maar zijn Red Bull-bolide stond muurvast. Desalniettemin kon hij tevreden terugkijken op de sessie, hij noteerde de derde tijd en was daarmee sneller dan zijn teamgenoot Max Verstappen. Ook in de eerste vrije training eindigde hij op de derde plaats.

Onderstuur

Na afloop van de vrije training was Perez niet ontevreden met zichzelf. De Mexicaanse coureur keek met een goed gevoel terug op de dag en besprak bij de internationale media zijn spin: "Ik onderstuurde naar buiten bij het uitkomen van die bocht. Daarna dacht ik dat ik de auto onder controle had, maar ik raakte het grind en toen was het game over. De schade ziet er niet slecht uit, slechts zeer minimaal. Bovendien zijn we ook niet echt tijd verloren."

Goede vrijdag

Perez voelt zich dan ook heel erg goed. Hij heeft een goed gevoel over de auto en dat geeft hem veel zelfvertrouwen. Hij durft dan ook positief vooruit te kijken naar de aanstaande sessies in Monza: "Het positieve is dat de auto goed presteert, ik mij comfortabel voel en dat we ons in een goede positie bevinden voor de rest van het weekend. Het voelde als een heel erg sterke vrijdag. Dit was de beste vrijdag in lange tijd voor ons."

In Monza spraken we Dr. Helmut Marko over de situatie, waarbij hij voor de microfoon van onder andere R N 3 6 5 slecht nieuws bracht over Ricciardo en zijn F1 seizoen.

"Normaal gesproken duurt dit zes weken", zegt de Red Bull-adviseur over het herstelproces van een dergelijke handbreuk. "In het allerbeste geval zal de eerste Grand Prix waarin hij weer in actie komt, de race in Singapore zijn. Echter, fysiek gezien is dit een van de meest extreme circuits."

De kans dat we Ricciardo daar dus terug zien?
"Die is onwaarschijnlijk. En datzelfde geldt eigenlijk voor de race op Suzuka",
zegt hij[Marko], doelend op de G P van Japan, gepland op zondag 24 september.
