Perez stelt teleur: "Gingen volledig blind de kwalificatie in"

Sergio Perez begon met een goed gevoel aan de dag van de kwalificatie. De Mexicaanse Red Bull Racing-coureur kende een goede vrijdag en wilde ook op de zaterdag goed presteren. Hij kwam echter niet verder dan de vijfde plaats en dat zorgde voor veel teleurstelling bij de Red Bull-man.

Perez kende gisteren twee redelijk sterke vrije trainingen. Ondanks een crash in de tweede vrije training was hij zeer tevreden en leefde hij met veel zelfvertrouwen toe naar de kwalificatie. In de derde vrije training stond hij echter lang in de pitlane en Red Bull besloot zijn Power Unit te vervangen. Met een andere Power Unit uit zijn pool in de auto begon Perez aan de kwalificatie, het ging niet zoals gehoopt en de vijfde plaats was het eindresultaat.

Niet ideaal

Na afloop van de kwalificatie was Perez alles behalve tevreden met zijn resultaat. De Mexicaanse coureur denkt dat zijn team niet het maximale uit de auto heeft gehaald. In gesprek met Motorsport.com is hij nogal duidelijk: "Het was niet echt ideaal vandaag. We hadden echt een heel erg goede vrijdag, maar vandaag was het allemaal eigenlijk best wel slordig. We moesten ook nog eens terugpakken naar de oude motor."

Set-up

Perez weet ook zeer goed waar het beter had gekund in de kwalificatie op het circuit van Monza. De Mexicaan legt uit wat zijn bevindingen zijn: "Ik had veel meer baantijd kunnen hebben. Ik reed in de derde vrije training naar buiten met een compleet andere set-up, want we hadden daar een paar probleempjes mee. We gingen eigenlijk volledig blind de kwalificatie in. Daarom hebben we onze performance volgens mij niet gemaximaliseerd."

Nico Rosberg was niet erg verrast: "Dit is hetzelfde als altijd bij Pérez. Op een lang circuit verliest hij zes tienden, en op een kort circuit vier tienden. Het is gewoon altijd een groot gat."

Ik weet niet of Perez inderdaad heeft gezegd dat zijn team niet het maximale uit de auto heeft gehaald maar als dat zo is moet hij zich diep schamen. Het team geeft hem iedere race de beste auto en de snelste pits. Hij zelf is degene die de kansen om zeep helpt, bijna iedere race opnieuw. Hij is overall een matige rijder die af en toe goed performt en rijdt boven zijn stand voor een topteam.
