F1 nog niet zeker of Italië in toekomst twee Grands Prix op kalender heeft

Terwijl het Italiaanse Grand Prix-weekend momenteel volop onderweg is en tienduizenden lokale fans met de racerij weet te entertainen, blijft het nog maar de vraag of de traditie ook in de toekomst nog voortgezet kan worden. Volgens F1-CEO Stefano Domenicali is het momenteel namelijk nog onduidelijk hoe de koningsklasse wat de komende jaren betreft haar kalender gaat invullen, en of er op dat schema genoeg ruimte voor twee races op Italiaanse bodem is.

2026. Tot dat jaar hebben zowel de Emilia Romagna Grand Prix op circuit Imola en de Italiaanse Grand Prix op circuit Monza de rechten om de koningsklasse naar haar asfalt doen af te laten reizen. Weten de legendarische circuits ook voor het daaropvolgende seizoen nog op de F1-kalender te staan? Dat is nog maar de vraag.

Omdat de Formule 1 in populariteit blijft groeien en er als gevolg steeds meer landen en wereldsteden in de lange wachtrij willen staan om een Grand Prix op eigen bodem te willen organiseren, kunnen legendarische circuits zoals Zandvoort en Spa in de toekomst misschien niet meer een vaste plek op de kalender verzekeren. En ook circuits Imola en Monza zouden bij dat rijtje geschaard kunnen worden.

"Op de korte termijn zullen we ons over een bepaalde kwestie buigen, en dat is namelijk wat de toekomst van de Formule 1 is in Italië”, begint F1-CEO Stefano Domenicali. "We moeten onderzoeken of er ruimte is om twee (Italiaanse) Grands Prix op de kalender te houden, of dat we de focus moeten richten op het houden van een enkele race. Ik wil Imola in ieder geval bedanken. De organisatoren stonden klaar om hun kans in de lastige coronapandemie te grijpen, en wisten daarmee te bevestigen dat ze de hoge verwachtingen konden waarmaken."

Ook meent Domenicali dat Monza binnenkort haar faciliteiten op en rondom het circuit gaat vernieuwen. De topman hamert er publiekelijk op dat de organisatie voor volgend seizoen moet kunnen laten zien dat het in staat is om met de tijd mee te gaan en dat er signalen van verbetering te zien zijn.

"Ik heb bevestigd gekregen dat, na afloop van deze Grand Prix, het circuit zal gaan beginnen om de faciliteiten te renoveren. Dat is een belangrijke stap, omdat ze volgend jaar moeten kunnen laten zien dat er vooruitgangen geboekt zijn. De historische waarde van Monza is groot, maar we moeten ook bij de tijd blijven als het gaat om de dienstverlening, die weer gepaard moet gaan met de toegangsprijzen die er betaald worden. Binnen nu en een jaar zullen we duidelijke beelden over de toekomst hebben", concludeert Domenicali.

Ik snap serieus niet wat dat met dat Monza is, ik vind het een super saai circuit. Ja het heeft historie, maar meer vanwege die kombaan die niet meer wordt gebruikt, heb ik het idee.
Italië heeft mooiere circuits dan Monza……

Imola is natuurlijk 'n prachtig circuit, maar eigenlijk F1 onwaardig....maar ja, dat zeiden we van Zandvoort ook.

Dan vind ik Monza het betere circuit van Italië....dus laat die maar op de kalender staan.

  Het is een hoge snelheid circuit die het maximale vraag van de motoren en door de paar bochten die er zijn dient er toch wat downforce te zijn.
  
  Het is een simpele baan waardoor de verschillen kleiner worden.
  
  Het enige. Wat ze van mij mogen veranderen aan de baan is de chicane na start finish (variante 1) laat die eruit zodat wij inhaal acties zien in curva grande.

Misschien zoiezo wel een goed idee om meer circuits om het jaar te laten rouleren, zien we a. meer verschillende circuits en b. wordt het allemaal nog wat minder voorspelbaar
