Alonso verwacht veel van Singapore: "Daar willen we beter presteren"

Fernando Alonso is bezig met een verrassend sterk seizoen in de Formule 1. De Spanjaard eindige al meerdere keren op het podium, maar anderhalve week geleden in Monza kende hij een lastig weekend. Alonso kijkt dan ook uit naar de aanstaande Grand Prix van Singapore, zijn verwachtingen zijn zeer hoog.

Alonso rijdt sinds dit seizoen voor het team van Aston Martin. De Spaanse tweevoudig wereldkampioen verbaast dit seizoen vriend en vijand met zijn goede prestaties. Hij pakte meerdere podiumplaatsen waaronder een tweede plaats in Zandvoort. Anderhalve week geleden kende hij echter een teleurstellend weekend in Monza. Op het Italiaanse circuit kwam hij niet verder dan de negende plaats.

Alonso had een slecht resultaat in Monza al ingecalculeerd. De Spanjaard leeft toe naar Singapore, want hij verwacht veel van deze race. In gesprek met het radioprogramma El Larguero laat hij weten dat hij nog beter zijn best gaat doen in de Aziatische stadsstaat: "Het zal zonder twijfel beter gaan dan in Monza. Op onze kalender hadden we al een groot, rood kruis door die race gezet. Onze verwachtingen werden helaas werkelijkheid. We hebben geen groen rondje om Singapore gezet, maar het klopt dat we daar beter willen presteren. Ik kijk er dan ook enorm naar uit."
