Alonso gelooft niets van tegenvallende snelheid Red Bull

Fernando Alonso reed twee aardige vrije trainingen op de vrijdag in Singapore. De Spaanse tweevoudig wereldkampioen was achter de Ferrari's en de Mercedessen de best of the rest. Hij presteerde stabieler dan de Red Bulls, maar hij denkt dat alles er in de kwalificatie anders uit gaat zien.

Alonso was vooral in de tweede vrije training zeer snel. De Spaanse Aston Martin-coureur noteerde de vierde tijd op slechts 0,358 seconden van de snelste tijd van zijn landgenoot Carlos Sainz. De pace van de Aston Martin zag er tijdens de trainingen ook niet slecht uit en dat geeft de burger moed. Alonso heeft echter zeer veel ervaring en hierdoor verwacht hij veel minder van de kwalificatie dan de rest van de wereld.

Red Bull

Na afloop van de eerste twee vrije trainingen op het circuit van Marina Bay is Alonso redelijk tevreden. De Spanjaard verwacht veel van de concurrentie, zo laat hij weten in gesprek met de Italiaanse tak van Motorsport.com: "Ik denk dat Ferrari, net als in Monza, te snel is voor ons. Red Bull zal er morgen ook gewoon staan als het om de knikkers gaat. Het is dus een enorm tegenstrijdige situatie."

Moeilijk

De onderlinge verschillen tussen de topteams en de coureurs in de top tien waren ook niet zo groot. Alonso weet dan ook dat er heel veel kan gaan gebeuren in de kwalificatie. De Spanjaard wil geen voorspellingen doen: "Je kan hier vijfde of zesde worden, maar je kan ook afvallen voordat Q3 is begonnen. Er zijn heel veel auto's die binnen een paar tienden van elkaar staan. Het wordt dus heel erg moeilijk. We moeten goede rondjes gaan rijden in Q2 en Q3."

RBR heeft het hele seizoen nog niet gedaan aan sandbagging. Waarom zouden ze dat nu wel doen?
In de race zal het zwaar worden, maar in de kwalificatie geef ik Ferrari alle kans.. en eigenlijk Verstappen voor het eerst dit seizoen minder kans.

Peraoonlijk denk ik dat er meer aan de hand was gisteren. Sandbaggen doet RBR niet echt aan normaal gesproken.
