Uitslag VT3 Japan: Verstappen nipt sneller dan dreigende McLarens

De laatste vrije training van het Japanse raceweekend zit er ook weer op. Op het circuit van Suzuka werd zojuist de snelste tijd genoteerd door Max Verstappen. Achter hem ging de tweede tijd ditmaal naar .Lando Norris De top drie werd in deze sessies compleet gemaakt door Oscar Piastri.

Na een rustige start van de sessie kwamen de eerste wagens na zo'n vijf minuten het Japanse asfaltlint op. Het team van Ferrari wilde geen moment onbenut laten en onder aanvoering van Carlos Sainz trapten ze de sessie af. Ze kregen al snel gezelschap van Aston Martin-coureur Lance Stroll en de opvallende snelle McLarens van Oscar Piastri en Lando Norris.

McLaren

McLaren kende een zeer goede derde vrije training in Suzuka. De Britse renstal werd op donderdag al aangewezen door Verstappen als mogelijke uitdagers. Dat lieten ze ook zien in de tweede vrije training. Ze verkleinden het gat met de Nederlandse titelfavoriet. Norris was op het grootste gedeelte van het circuit zelfs sneller dan Verstappen, maar de Red Bull-coureur was bijna sneller dan het licht in de derde sector. Zijn teamgenoot Sergio Perez moest iets meer tijd toegeven.

Stilte voor de storm

Verstappen had verder geen haast. Hij meldde zich amper op de baan en reed zijn eerste rondjes pas na een klein kwartiertje. Het maakte hem niets uit, het enige waar hij over klaagde was een langzaam rijdende AlphaTauri-bolide tijdens zijn vliegende ronde. Er gebeurde verder ook weinig spectaculaire dingen in deze vrije training. De coureurs hielden zich koest, er ging zelfs niemand door de grindbak heen. Het is een overduidelijke stilte voor de storm voor de kwalificatie van later vandaag.

  Precies @M@ximumOverdrive , en Verstappen had geen optimale outlap waardoor hij denk ik wat temperatuur miste in de eerste sector waardoor daar de McLarens sneller waren.
