Verstappen geniet: "Niet makkelijk om dit voor elkaar te krijgen"

Max Verstappen kan aankomend weekend voor de derde keer in zijn loopbaan wereldkampioen worden in de Formule 1. De Nederlander is bezig met een extreem sterk seizoen, maar hij gaat daar zelf zeer bescheiden mee om. Volgens Verstappen is het ook niet makkelijk om zo constant te presteren.

Alleen in Singapore finishte Verstappen dit seizoen niet op het podium. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur won daarnaast twee andere races niet, in alle andere Grands Prix kwam hij als overwinnaar over de streep. Het is dan ook niet vreemd dat Verstappen zeer dicht bij zijn derde wereldtitel is. Een goede prestatie in de sprintrace van aankomend weekend in Qatar is al goed voor titelprolongatie.

Constantheid

Verstappen is vanzelfsprekend blij met zijn huidige resultaten, maar hij wil niet doen alsof het een piece of cake is. In de Red Bull-podcast Mind Set Win spreekt Verstappen zich uit: "Het is niet makkelijk om de constantheid voor elkaar te krijgen. Er zullen weekenden zijn die moeilijker voor je zijn, maar het gaat erom hoe je met deze situaties omgaat. Het gaat erom dat je dan het maximale uit de situatie kan halen. Zo kan je ervoor zorgen dat het toch een goed weekend is. Het is een continue gang van zaken en je leert elke keer beter hoe je ermee om kan gaan."

Verliezen

Verstappen weet dat hij niet voor eeuwig zal blijven winnen. Voordat hij zelf de touwtjes in handen nam waren er immers ook andere teams en coureurs oppermachtig in de sport. Hij is hier eerlijk over: "Je verliest uiteindelijk meer races dan dat je races wint. Ik heb ook heel wat races verloren voordat ik begon met winnen. Ik ben ook door de fase gegaan waarin in ik niet won en we moeten nu genieten van het feit dat we winnen."

Vreemd, een nieuwsbericht over Verstappen en nul reacties. Ik denk dat dit een kantelpunt in zijn carrière markeert, vanaf nu gaat het bergafwaarts.
