Perez staat achter Verstappen: "Niemand mag dat relativeren"

Het team van Red Bull Racing is dit seizoen zeer succesvol in de Formule 1. De Oostenrijkse renstal heeft slechts één Grand Prix niet gewonnen, maar het onderlinge verschil tussen Max Verstappen en Sergio Perez is wel zeer groot. Perez wil de prestaties van Verstappen niet relativeren.

Verstappen wordt dit weekend in Qatar vrijwel zeker voor het derde jaar op rij wereldkampioen in de Formule 1. De Nederlander heeft slechts drie Grands Prix niet gewonnen in dit seizoen. Twee van die races werden gewonnen door zijn Red Bull-teamgenoot Sergio Perez. Terwijl de Mexicaan worstelde met zijn vorm, won Verstappen race na race. Ook anderhalve week geleden in Japan was dit het geval.

Japan

Perez viel in Suzuka uit na meerdere incidenten terwijl Verstappen de Grand Prix op zijn naam schreef. Perez vreest niet voor een herhaling van de voorgaande race. In Qatar spreekt hij zich erover uit in gesprek met de internationale media: "De set-up van de auto leek daar niet volledig juist. We hebben die wellicht iets te agressief ingesteld. Het zou hier een stuk beter moeten gaan, want we begrijpen nu wel waar het in de vorige race mis ging."

Verstappen

Perez staat tweede in het kampioenschap en de kans dat hij Verstappen nog kan inhalen is vrijwel nul. De Mexicaanse Red Bull-coureur is echter enorm trots op de prestaties van zijn teamgenoot: "Ik heb enorm veel respect voor zijn prestaties. Hij draait echt een geweldig seizoen, hij rijdt op een compleet ander niveau en hij levert onder alle omstandigheden. Ik denk dat niemand dat ook zou mogen relativeren."

Er is dit weekend blijkbaar nog een race gaande. Wie het diepste in het hol van zijn teamgenoot kan kruipen. Op dit moment ligt Russell nog nipt voor, maar Perez heeft de achtervolging ingezet.

Voor wie meer leest dan enkel de titel:
De enige setup die moet aangepast worden is die van je mindset Checo... aan de wagen ligt het niet.
Hoop voor jou dat je die voor elkaar krijgt in de volgende races want de alternatieven krijgen al vorm achter je rug. Dat Max best tevreden met je is als 2de rijder is een voordeel wat ik niet te hoog zou inschatten . . .
