Lawson kreeg bizar telefoontje: "Ik zag alleen Daniels gezicht"

Liam Lawson komt ook dit weekend in Qatar weer in actie. De Nieuw-Zeelander valt weer in bij AlphaTauri omdat Daniel Ricciardo nog niet volledig fit is. Lawson hoorde aan het begin van de week dat hij weer mag gaan rijden, dit gebeurde echter niet op de gebruikelijke manier.

Ricciardo brak zijn middenhandsbeentje tijdens een crash in de tweede vrije training in Zandvoort. Lawson zit sindsdien achter het stuur en hij doet het zeker niet slecht. Hij is vaak sneller dan zijn teamgenoot Yuki Tsunoda en hij veroverde in Singapore zijn eerste WK-punten. Eigenlijk was het de bedoeling dat Ricciardo dit weekend in Qatar weer in actie zou komen, maar dat is dus toch niet het geval.

De buitenwereld kwam hier op woensdag achter toen AlphaTauri hun preview de wereld in slingerde, hierin stond dat Lawson zou rijden. In Qatar deelt Lawson met de internationale media hoe hij het nieuws tot zich kreeg: "Ik zat afgelopen maandag te lunchen en toen werd ik ineens door een onbekend nummer gebeld op FaceTime. Ik was in de war, want je belt niet zomaar iemand op die manier. Ik nam op en het enige wat ik zag was het gezicht van Daniel. Hij zei dat hij mij nog een weekend liet racen. Het is dus goed om weer terug te zijn en het is fijn dat ik weer in de auto mag zitten."
