Steiner hekelt bandenblamage: "Dit mag niet gebeuren in de F1"

Naast de wereldtitel van Max Verstappen, gaat het dit weekend vooral over de chaos met de banden. Gisteren werd het schema namelijk omgegooid omdat de FIA op aanraden van bandenleverancier Pirelli een paar bochten had aangepast. Volgens Haas-teambaas Günther Steiner hoort zoiets niet te gebeuren in de Formule 1.

Op de zaterdagmiddag stuurde de FIA een opvallend persbericht de wereld in waarin stond dat Pirelli problemen met de banden had ontdekt. Er werden minuscule scheurtjes in de banden ontdekt en die werden waarschijnlijk veroorzaakt door de nieuwe kerbstones op het circuit van Losail. Deze piramidevormige kerbs zouden de banden zo erg beschadigen, dat de FIA overweegt om een verplichte driestopper in te voeren.

De teams en coureurs waren niet te spreken over het feit dat dit moest worden aangepast. Haas-teambaas Günther Steiner was nogal fel en hij wordt geciteerd door Motorsportweek: "Dit is niet goed. Ik weet niet waar deze kerbs vandaan komen, maar voor ons is het echt out of the blue.  Ze horen kerbs te ontwikkelen die de banden niet kapot maken, maar dat doen ze dus wel. Ik weet niet hoe het komt, de banden kunnen het gewoon niet aan. Dit is zorgwekkend voor de toekomst. Dit mag niet gebeuren in de Formule 1."

      valt ook wel mee. Er is altijd wel ergens ophef over in de F1. t is juist goed dat ze hier transparant in zijn en het probleem daadwerkelijk willen aanpakken ipv het er op aan te laten komen. Sommige dingen kom je pas in de praktijk tegen. Als Pirelli hardere banden wil maken omdat de nieuwe auto's te snel gaan staan we ook weer op onze achterste benen. En teams zoeken zelf ook overal de grenzen weer op. Max stond gisteren 2 minuten voor SQ3 al bij de pitsuitgang, volgens de Sky commentatoren om de bandendruk wat te laten zakken. Is ook niet zoals als het bedoeld is.

    Dan hadden de teams zich sterk moeten maken voor Bridgestone, Pirelli is al jaren niet dat wat men ervan moet en mag verwachten.
    Bridgestone heeft daarnaast ook nog meer geboden en heeft veel meer ervaring op gebied van de racerij en het belangrijkste is dat ze hun product begrijpen.
