Domenicali dankt Verstappen: "Max verdient de titel"

Max Verstappen veroverde gisteren zijn derde wereldtitel in de Formule 1. De Nederlander beloonde zichzelf na een seizoen waarin hij bijna onverslaanbaar was. Verstappen ontvangt veel complimenten en ook Formule 1-CEO Stefano Domenicali is enorm onder de indruk van de prestaties van de Red Bull-coureur.

Verstappen kwam gisteren in de sprintrace in Qatar als tweede over de streep en dat was genoeg voor het prolongeren van zijn wereldtitel. Halverwege de Sprint had hij de titel eigenlijk al in handen omdat zijn teamgenoot Sergio Perez was uitgevallen na een crash. Verstappen zag het gebeuren, maar hij hield het hoofd koel en dacht zelfs nog eventjes aan de sprintzege. Uiteindelijk was de tweede plek dus meer dan genoeg voor de titel.

In het parc fermé sprong hij in de armen van zijn team en zijn familie. Ook Formule 1-CEO Stefano Domenicali stond klaar om zijn felicitaties uit te delen. De Italiaan deelde even later zijn complimenten uit in gesprek met De Telegraaf: 'Eigenlijk zijn er niet genoeg woorden om te beschrijven wat voor seizoen hij heeft gedraaid en waarmee hij nog steeds bezig is. Max verdient de titel. Het is indrukwekkend hoe gefocust hij was sinds de eerste dag van het seizoen. Ik weet zeker dat zijn instelling hetzelfde blijft, tot aan het einde van het jaar. Hij zet hiermee iets bijzonders neer in de historie van onze sport."

Goed zo, en nu graag stoppen met de sport de vernieling in te helpen. En dan bedoel ik het uiteraard niet financieel want de zakken bij de FOM worden rijkelijk gevuld.
