Verstappen waarschuwt concurrentie: "Dan ga ik weer voor de winst"

Max Verstappen heeft met nog vijf raceweekenden te gaan het grootste doel al binnen. De Nederlander pakte afgelopen weekend in Qatar zijn derde wereldtitel in de Formule 1. Verstappen gaat echter niet achterover leunen, hij wil ook in de komende races voor de zege gaan.

De wereldtitel van Verstappen was allesbehalve een verrassing. Hij is bezig met een extreem sterk seizoen waarin hij slechts in drie Grands Prix is verslagen. Verstappens voorsprong op zijn enige concurrent, zijn teamgenoot Sergio Perez, groeide met de race en in Qatar was zijn titel dan ook al een feit. Aangezien Perez halverwege de sprint al uitviel, mocht Verstappen op dat moment al juichen.

Aanpak

Verstappen was blij met zijn wereldtitel, maar hij leunde niet achterover. In de Grand Prix wilde hij immers ook gaan vlammen en dat deed hij ook. Aan de internationale media laat hij weten dat hij dit in de komende weken ook wil gaan doen: "Dat verandert mijn aanpak niet. In Qatar wist ik dat ik maar drie punten moest pakken in de sprintrace, maar ik wilde nog steeds winnen. Ik probeer nog steeds mijn uiterste best te doen en in de race op zondag was dat ook zo."

Mindset

Er staan nog vijf Grands Prix op de planning en als het aan Verstappen ligt, dan gaat hij daar ook voor de winst. De Nederlander deelt daarmee een waarschuwing uit aan zijn tegenstanders: "Als ik afreis naar de volgende race, dan ga ik weer voor de winst. We hebben immers een geweldige auto. Ik weet dat de teams om ons heen misschien dichterbij komen. Het zal soms wat spannender worden, maar de mindset blijft gewoon hetzelfde. Ik ga niet opeens meer risico nemen, want ik ben blij met hoe ik het nu doe."
