Perez denkt niet aan stoppen: "Wil nog minstens drie tot vier jaar doorgaan"

Sergio Perez staat onder grote druk bij het team van Red Bull Racing. De Mexicaan staat nog wel tweede in het wereldkampioenschap, maar zijn resultaten vallen tegen. Er gaan veel geruchten rond over zijn toekomst, maar die verwijst Perez naar het rijk der fabelen. Hij wil nog vele jaren doorgaan.

Perez is bezig met een redelijk tegenvallend seizoen. De Mexicaanse Red Bull-coureur kan zijn teamgenoot Max Verstappen amper bijhouden en zijn resultaten vallen flink tegen. Er gaan veel geruchten rond over zijn toekomst bij Red Bull en in de Formule 1. Dit weekend gingen er bijvoorbeeld al meerdere geruchten rond, zo wordt er beweerd dat hij zou worden ontslagen als hij de tweede plaats niet weet vast te houden. Ook ging er een wild gerucht rond over een mogelijk afscheid.

Contractverlenging

Volgens Perez klopt er allemaal niets van. Hij beschikt over een contract dat loopt tot en met eind 2024 en hij wil dat gewoon gaan uitdienen. De Mexicaan wuift alle geruchten weg en hij laat in gesprek met Motorsport.com zelfs weten te dromen van een contractverlenging: "Ik heb gewoon een contract voor volgend jaar. Mijn contract loopt daarna af, dus het wordt belangrijk om een goed jaar te hebben."

Motivatie

Perez denkt dan ook niet aan stoppen. De Mexicaanse coureur wil nog wel eventjes doorgaan en hij voelt zich dan ook heel erg goed. Perez weigert te denken aan een mogelijk pensioen of gedwongen vertrek: "Ik heb de motivatie om door te gaan. Ik wil dit nog jaren blijven doen, ook omdat ik geloof dat ik veel te bieden heb. Ik zou nog graag minstens drie tot vier jaar willen blijven racen in de Formule 1."

Tsja, hij heeft een contract voor 2024 bij RBR. Aangezien RBR dat bevestigd heeft zal dat wel kloppen. Alleen de details van dat contract zijn ons niet bekend, maar ik zou er van opkijken als er over en weer geen prestatieclausules instaan. En als Perez de clausules van RBR gehaald heeft hadden ze die er net zo goed niet in kunnen zetten.
RBR kan het zich voor 2024 simpelweg niet veroorloven om de klus alleen met Verstappen te klaren, die kan met de McLarens redelijk steady op plekken 2 - 4 in z'n eentje niet de punten die nodig zijn voor WCC bij elkaar rijden. De concurrentie komt te dichtbij om je Perez te kunnen veroorloven. Zo simpel is het. Ik verwacht dat een wanprestatie komend weekend en totaal door het ijs zakken in Maxico wel einde oefening eind seizoen is.

  Hij wordt hoogstwaarschijnlijk tweede in het kampioenschap. Wat voor prestaties zouden er nog meer contractueel vastgelegd zijn dan? Ze gaan echt niet opnemen dat hij x aantal races moet winnen, daar tekent niemand voor.

  Er zijn in het verleden al contracten geweest dat je een bepaald percentage van punten van je teamgenoot moet halen ed. Dus een prestatieclausule kan nog steeds op basis van resultaten zelfs al wordt ie p2.

  Heel simpel, hij mag blijven als hij zijn vorm van begin dit seizoen terug krijgt (waar ik weinig hoop op heb) maar zodra hij komend seizoen 4 races verder is op dit niveau is het over en sluiten, en zal ongetwijfeld Ricciardo dat zitje opvullen, en mag Perez in zijn handjes knijpen en god en alles op zijn blote knietjes danken als hij dan nog in die AT mag zitten, maar daar heb ik ook weinig hoop op voor hem.
  
  RB heeft dit al eigenlijk laten doorschemeren met hun citaten over zijn resultaten, en hoe Ricciardo word behandeld door RB.

  @RBH2019; het is vrij normaal dat er een clausule is mbt afstand in punten tot de andere coureur. En hij wordt hoogstwaarschijnlijk 2e? Nou, reken daar maar niet op, als ik er € 100 op zou moeten zetten gingen mijn euro's naar Hamilton. Perez heeft aan punten er wel 5 binnengehaald de laatste 5 races. Er komen nog 2 circuits waar Hamilton altijd erg goed gaat, dus die strijd om plek 2 is nog lang niet klaar.
