Verstappen trots op Red Bull: "Het is een tweede familie"

Max Verstappen werd anderhalve week geleden voor het derde seizoen op rij wereldkampioen in de Formule 1. Verstappen en zijn team Red Bull Racing zijn zeer dominant en de Nederlander voelt zich op zijn plek. Ondanks geruchten over een machtsstrijd binnen het team, geeft Verstappen aan dat Red Bull als een tweede familie voelt.

Verstappen beleeft dit jaar een zeer dominant seizoen in dienst van Red Bull. De Nederlander heeft slechts drie Grands Prix niet gewonnen en hij is slechts één keer niet op het podium gefinisht. Veel kenners zijn onder de indruk van zijn prestaties en ook de krachtige Red Bull-bolide wordt aangewezen als een oorzaak van de dominantie van Verstappen. Afgelopen weekend gingen er geruchten over een machtsstrijd binnen Red Bull, maar Verstappen is vooral trots op zijn collega's.

Mateschitz

Verstappen geeft wel toe dat hij baalt dat Red Bull-oprichter Dietrich Mateschitz dit niet meer mag meemaken. De Oostenrijker overleed vorig jaar en een eerlijke Verstappen spreekt zich uit bij Servus TV: "Natuurlijk doen wij dit ook voor hem. Het is jammer dat hij deze dominantie niet heeft kunnen zien, want het is nog steeds zijn team. Ik word er altijd een beetje emotioneel van als we over dit onderwerp praten."

Familie

Verstappen voelt zich in ieder geval op zijn gemak bij het team van Red Bull. Hij rijdt al sinds 2016 voor het Oostenrijkse team en dat zorgt ervoor dat Verstappen zich thuis voelt. Ondanks dat er geruchten rondgaan over een machtsstrijd binnen het team, is Verstappen tevreden: "We hebben veel plezier in het team, dat is misschien nog wel belangrijker dan de prestaties. We zijn samen heel erg veel onderweg. Er werken echt zoveel fantastische mensen binnen dit team. Het is echt een tweede familie."

  Bij Mercedes zie ik eigenlijk alleen bij Hamilton al een paar jaar wat achterdocht. Als ik moet gokken is het vooral begonnen na Abu Dhabi 2021. Hamilton was duidelijk niet alleen om het verloren kampioenschap van slag. Mercedes gaf grootschalig geen thuis onder het podium. Maar hij voelde zich duidelijk in de steek gelaten wat strategie betreft.
  Maar uiteindelijk schudt hij dat af en blijft hij trouw.
