Ricciardo kijkt uit naar comeback: "Mijn conditie is goed"

Daniel Ricciardo keert aankomend weekend terug bij het team van AlphaTauri. De Australiër is weer volledig de oude nadat hij zijn middenhandsbeentje had gebroken in Zandvoort. Ricciardo heeft veel zin in zijn comeback en hij stelt dat hij zich zo goed mogelijk heeft voorbereid op de race.

Ricciardo brak zijn middenhandsbeentje tijdens een crash in de tweede vrije training in Zandvoort. In de afgelopen weken werd hij bij AlphaTauri vervangen door de talentvolle Liam Lawson. De Nieuw-Zeelander maakte een goede indruk, maar toch kreeg Ricciardo een contract voor 2024. Hij kon zich dus in alle rust voorbereiden op zijn comeback en AlphaTauri en teameigenaar Red Bull gunden hem de tijd.

Terugkeer

Ricciardo is heel erg blij dat hij weer achter het stuur mag gaan kruipen. De Australiër heeft er zin in en dat laat hij ook weten in de vooruitblik van AlphaTauri: "Het is goed om weer terug te zijn! Mijn hand is weer in orde en ik heb dat goed kunnen aanvoelen in de simulator. Ik heb dat uitgeprobeerd in de week voor Qatar, maar toen had ik het gevoel dat er niet alles uit kon halen. Ik heb de rest van de week doorgebracht in Engeland en ik heb veel tijd doorgebracht in de sim, tot het punt dat ik mij goed voelde. Mijn conditie is goed, want ik heb gewoon doorgetraind. Ik heb alleen mijn linkerhand niet zoveel kunnen gebruiken."

Uitdagingen

Ricciardo geeft toe dat hij baalde van zijn blessure. Hij heeft zijn tijd echter nuttig gebruikt, want hij heeft in de simulator veel geleerd over de geüpdatete AT04. Nu heeft hij vooral veel zin in de aanstaande Grand Prix: "Ik heb altijd genoten van Austin. Het is een unieke plek, vooral als je kijkt naar andere moderne circuits. Door de hobbels is het ook nog eens een fysiek uitdagende baan. Het rammelt je echt door elkaar, maar dat vind ik leuk. Ik houd van een uitdaging."

  1 slecht seizoen, 2022. En 2021 viel ook wel wat tegen maar hij stond in de eindstand toch minder ver achter Norris dan Piastri nu. Periode daarvoor bij Renault was gewoon heel sterk.
