Perez lacht om pensioen-geruchten: "Dit is niet mijn laatste contract"

Sergio Perez is bezig met een wisselvallig seizoen in de Formule 1. Hij staat op de tweede plaats in het wereldkampioenschap, maar zijn achterstand op zijn teamgenoot Max Verstappen is zeer groot en zijn resultaten zijn zeer wisselend. Perez laat in Austin weten dat hij zeker niet met pensioen gaan.

Perez heeft dit seizoen slechts twee Grands Prix gewonnen, zijn Red Bull Racing-teamgenoot Max Verstappen heeft echter bijna alle races gewonnen. De Nederlander veroverde twee weken geleden in Qatar zijn derde wereldtitel en in Japan schonk hij Red Bull ook de constructeurstitel. Perez had het zwaar en hij zag ook dat er geruchten rondgingen over een mogelijk pensioen. Online werd er beweerd dat hij in Mexico zijn pensionering zou aankondigen.

In Austin kon Perez voor het eerst reageren op de wilde geruchten over een mogelijk pensioen. De Mexicaan haalt er zijn schouders over op en hij wordt geciteerd door Motorsport.com: "Ha, ik heb die verhalen ook gelezen! Ik lach er maar gewoon om. Ik kan er verder toch niets aan veranderen en ik ben volledig gefocust op mijn eigen prestaties. Ik ben de afgelopen tijd vooral druk met het team aan de slag geweest."

Contract

Perez denkt nog helemaal niet aan een pensioen. Hij heeft nog een contract voor 2024 en geeft aan dat hij hierover al heeft gesproken met het team. Hij is duidelijk: "Deze geruchten vatten mijn seizoen wel samen. Iemand zegt iets over mij en dat zou dan meteen de waarheid moeten zijn. Ik heb nog gewoon een contract voor volgend jaar en ik zie geen enkele reden om dat contract niet te respecteren. Dit zal trouwens niet eens mijn laatste contract in de Formule 1 zijn."

Ik ben met mijn 60ste met pensioen gegaan en het is mijn beste beslissing ooit.

Misschien moet hij wel gewoon teruggaan naar Aston Martin. Ik denk dat ze daar ook wel klaar zijn met Stroll en Alonso gaat ook geen jaren meer rijden. Daar heeft die in elk geval nog een kans op een kampioenschap of het winnen van meerdere racen als ze straks een mega auto maken.

Kan die fijn Riccardo in die Red Bull laten rijden. Die wordt nog veel harder er uitgereden in zijn huidige vorm.

  Aangezien hij al zeker is dat hij nog een contract krijgt, is de deal met Aston Martin misschien rond, Checo naar AM, Nando in de Bull.

Het zou zomaar kunnen dat ze bij RBR denken dat ze aan Perez genoeg hebben volgend jaar, gezien de uitspraken die Newey's racefiets partner Eddy Jordan gisteren heeft gedaan.
Als RBR denkt dat ze een dusdanig onverslaanbare wagen hebben en Perez niet zo geweldig hoeft te presteren om tòch het WCC te halen.
