Andretti werkt hard: "We gaan volgende week naar de windtunnel"

Het team van Andretti is hard bezig met de voorbereidingen voor een mogelijke deelname aan de Formule 1. De FIA heeft de plannen al goedgekeurd en nu ligt de bal bij de FOM. Michael Andretti is vol goede moed en hij laat in Austin weten dat hij nog steeds in 2025 op de grid wil staan.

De Formule 1-plannen van de Amerikaanse racefamilie bestaan al geruime tijd. Nadat de koop van Sauber stukliep, wilden ze een eigen team oprichten. Toen de FIA eerder dit jaar de deur op een kier zette voor mogelijke nieuwe teams, was Andretti er samen met Cadillac als de kippen bij. De Amerikaanse grootmachten kregen eerder deze maand groen licht van de FIA, maar ze moeten nu nog wel de FOM overtuigen.

Windtunnel

Michael Andretti gelooft in zijn plannen. De oud-coureur geeft aan dat er achter de schermen hard wordt gewerkt en dat er zelfs al een prototype bestaat. In gesprek met Sky Sports gaf hij tekst en uitleg: "Op dit moment richten wij ons erop om in 2025 de sport te betreden. We hebben in de planning staan dat we volgende week onze 2023-spec auto in de windtunnel gaan testen. Op dit moment is 2025 nog steeds ons doel, maar het kan ook 2026 worden. Dat gaan we allemaal nog wel zien."

Colton Herta

Ook over de coureurs heeft Andretti al nagedacht. Zijn IndyCar-coureur Colton Herta staat nog steeds bovenaan zijn lijstje, maar er zijn meer opties: "We hebben het veel over hem gehad, Colton staat bovenaan ons lijstje. We hebben wel het probleem met de punten voor de superlicentie. We moeten zien hoe hij het in de komende jaren in de IndyCar gaat doen. We hebben ook gesproken met coureurs die wel aan de eisen voldoen. Het doel is om een Amerikaan in de auto te hebben en daarnaast een coureur met ervaring om hem te helpen."

Herta heeft het zelf in de hand... moet top 3 eindigen in 2024 voor genoeg punten om in 2025 deel te nemen. Is t pas 2026... dan heeft 1x top 5 en 1x top 3 nodig volgens mij.

Als die echt gebonden wil zijn aan 1 amerikaan... dan heeft die keuze uit Newgarden of Sargeant ben ik bang haha. En Newg... [Lees verder]

Nou, ik kom er net vandaan en oei, wat 'n wind heb ik gelaten .....kan niet anders ook na twee dagen snert eten.

Als die echt gebonden wil zijn aan 1 amerikaan... dan heeft die keuze uit Newgarden of Sargeant ben ik bang haha. En Newgarden zegt sowieso nee.

Wel vreemd dat ze een 2023 model hebben. Wie heeft dat schaalmodel gebouwt en op basis waar van? (Ja de regelboeken) maar van een voormalig f1 ontwerper of eigen mensen of extern bedrijf?

Op basis waar van is immers erg belangrijk hoe relevant het is, of dat het net als USGP voor de buhne is.

  Kirkwood lijkt me dan veel meer aangewezen zit momenteel ook in Andretti stal, doet het ook vrij goed na een moeilijk eerste seizoen.

Perez lijkt mij voor Andretti de ultieme keuze als de ervaren coureur ter ondersteuning van Colton gezien zijn populariteit in die regio.
