Stroll voelde na enkele rondjes dat AMR23 snelheid mist

Lance Stroll kende een uiterst moeizame vrijdag in Austin vanwege grote remproblemen met zijn Aston Martin. Met amper een meter gereden op het uitdagende Circuit of The Americas, moest de Canadees er maar het beste van maken. Uiteindelijk splitste hij de twee Williams-coureurs en staat P19.

Toch zag Stroll enkele lichtpuntjes, maar over het algemeen kwam de Aston Martin niet op gang. "De kwalificatie ingaan met slechts vijf ronden in VT1 zou altijd een uitdaging zijn, maar ik had eigenlijk het gevoel dat ik de AMR23 vrij snel onder de knie kreeg. Het probleem vandaag was dat we gewoon niet de snelheid hadden."

"We hadden op iets meer gehoopt, dus het is een teleurstellend resultaat, maar dit is een goed circuit om op te racen en inhalen is mogelijk, dus zondag zullen er kansen zijn."

Tijdens de race van 2022 baarde Stroll nog opzien door een opmerkelijke crash met Fernando Alonso op het achterste rechte stuk. De Spanjaard, in dienst toen van Alpine, werd zowat getorpedeerd nadat Stroll op een ongewone manier verdedigde. Alonso kon door een engeltje op zijn schouder verder rijden en alsnog punten scoren, terwijl Stroll zijn Aston Martin afschreef.
