Ricciardo ondanks P15: "Het voelt goed om terug te zijn."

Daniel Ricciardo werd vijftiende en moest enkele tienden toegeven op teamgenoot Yuki Tsunoda. De 34-jarige Australiër had liever wat meer van voren gestaan op de grid, maar heeft ondanks een iets wat teleurstellend resultaat genoten van het rijden in de AT004.

"Het voelt goed om terug te zijn", begon de AlphaTauri-coureur op de officiële website van zijn team. "Er was niets dat mij fysiek tegenhield vandaag, dus het ging om het vinden van het gevoel in de auto en de afstelling. Het is moeilijk te voorspellen wat we vrijdag hadden kunnen doen met slechts één uur in de auto en daarna meteen de kwalificatie in, maar de laatste ronde voelde al een beetje slecht aan."

Het liefst had de achtvoudig Grand Prix-winnaar meer oefentijd gekregen. "Het is moeilijk om maar één sessie te hebben waarin je de auto moet afstellen zoals hij is voor de kwalificatie. Het was jammer, want we hadden vanaf het begin een beetje gedoe, maar toen de baan beter werd, bleven we steken. Ik denk dat ik meer had kunnen geven, maar morgen hebben we nog een kans en de windrichting kan veranderen, dus dat kan een rol spelen."

"We zullen proberen te kijken wat we vanavond kunnen ontdekken, om er van te leren. Ik wou dat ik niet vanaf P15 startte, maar het is fijn om weer achter het stuur te zitten en de resultaten daargelaten, het was een leuke dag", sloot Ricciardo af.
