Horner ontkracht geruchten over Perez-exit

Sergio Perez staat onder grote druk bij het team van Red Bull Racing. De Mexicaanse coureur kan zijn teamgenoot Max Verstappen amper bijhouden, maar hij staat nog wel op de tweede plaats in het wereldkampioenschap. Teambaas Christian Horner ontkent dat Perez wordt ontslagen als hij deze positie niet vast weet te houden.

In de afgelopen dagen ging het veelvuldig over de rol van Perez bij Red Bull. Hij is overduidelijk de tweede coureur van het team, maar er lijkt veel onvrede te bestaan over zijn prestaties. Hij maakt veel foutjes en zijn achterstand op wereldkampioen Verstappen is fors. Volgens geruchten uit Zuid-Amerika zou hij worden ontslagen door Red Bull als hij de tweede plaats in het wereldkampioenschap niet vast weet te houden.

Red Bull-teambaas Christian Horner heeft deze geruchten ook gelezen, maar volgens hem klopt er helemaal niets van. Hij is zeer duidelijk over de zaak in gesprek met RaceFans: "Er is helemaal geen mandaat zoals wordt omschreven. We zijn nog nooit eerste en tweede geworden in het kampioenschap, we zijn wel een paar keer eerste en derde geworden met Webber en Vettel. Vorig jaar trouwens ook met Checo en Max. Met deze auto zou het fantastisch zijn als we een 1-2tje konden pakken. Er is geen mandaat dat als Checo niet tweede wordt, hij zijn plekje zou beslissen. Dat is überhaupt nooit besproken."

Zou mooi zijn als hij het lek boven krijgt en gewoon consequent binnen drie tienden van Max weet te blijven. Met een sterkere teamgenooot is er ook een grotere kans op herrie in de tent en daar houdt Red Bull niet van.
