Haas-reserve Fittipaldi vindt IndyCar-zitje voor 2024

Haas-reservecoureur Pietro Fittipaldi heeft een stoeltje gevonden voor het aankomende autosportseizoen. De in Miami geboren Braziliaanse coureur zal aankomend jaar gaan rijden in zijn geboorteland, het is nog niet duidelijk wat de gevolgen hiervan zijn op zijn rol bij het team van Haas.

Fittipaldi heeft bekend gemaakt dat hij vanaf volgend seizoen in de IndyCar gaat rijden voor het team van Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. Hij wordt daar de teamgenoot van Graham Rahal en Christian Lundgaard. Fittipaldi heeft al ervaring in de Amerikaanse klasse, in 2018 en 2021 reed hij al een handvol races voor het team van Dale Coyne Racing. Het is niet duidelijk wat dit betekent voor zijn rol bij het team van Haas.

Fittipaldi fungeert al een aantal jaar als reservecoureur van Haas. In die hoedanigheid mocht hij in 2020 twee Grands Prix invallen voor de geblesseerde Romain Grosjean. Vorig seizoen mocht hij twee vrije trainingen rijden voor Haas, hij kwam toen in actie in Mexico en Abu Dhabi. Dit jaar zal hij geen trainingen gaan rijden voor het team, Haas heeft Ferrari-talent Ollie Bearman aangewezen als de rookie voor de trainingen. Of dit ook te maken heeft met de toekomst van Fittipaldi, is niet bekend.

Jammer dat Haas hem niet in een racezitje zet.
Ik heb met Pietro gewerkt in zijn DTM dagen, is een jongen met echt veel talent en bovendien een echte Fittipaldi: vriendelijk, toegankelijk, een enorm racehart.
Net als Drugovic en Lawson een jongen die echt een racezitje hoort te krijgen. Maar waarschijnlijk komt er te weinig Brazilaans geld met hem mee...
