Brand in pitbox legt FE-comeback De Vries plat

Nyck de Vries heeft vandaag zijn comeback achter het stuur van een racewagen gemaakt. Na zijn ontslag bij het Formule 1-team van AlphaTauri, verscheen hij amper in het openbaar. Enkele maanden geleden tekende hij een contract bij het Formule E-team van Mahindra Racing. Vandaag heeft hij hier zijn eerste meters gemaakt.

Op het circuit van Valencia werkt de Formule E hun pre-season-test af. Alle teams komen hierbij in actie en voor De Vries betekent het zijn terugkeer in een officiële sessie in een wereldkampioenschap. De Vries werd eerder al wereldkampioen in de Formule E en hij is dus een bekende naam in dit kampioenschap. Vandaag nam hij plaats in de bolide van Mahindra en draaide hij zijn eerste rondjes.

Maar, niet alles ging zoals men had gehoopt. Tijdens een persconferentie werd het gebouw ontruimd omdat er brand was uitgebroken in de pitlane. Het lijkt er op dat de brand is uitgebroken rondom de garages van Mahindra, het team van de Vries of bij de leverancier van de batterijen. Het circuit werd ontruimd en op foto's op sociale media zijn rookwolken in de pitlane te zien. Het is ook niet duidelijk of de middagsessie wel door kan gaan.

In een statement laat de Formule E weten dat er tussen de twee sessies in een brand is uitgebroken in de pitlane. Volgens de organisatie werden de garages en het pitlanecomplex snel ontruimd. Eén persoon is uit voorzorg naar het ziekenhuis gebracht. De Formule E, de lokale brandweer en de FIA gaan onderzoek doen naar de oorzaak van de brand.

Vreemd dat ze daar geen dompelbad hebbenwaar ze de auto/accu in donderen na een chrash met X impact..

Iedereen in het accu wereldje weet dat die lithium accu's gekke dingen kunnen doen na een flinke impact...
