Mansell verwacht nog meer records van Verstappen

Max Verstappen maakt momenteel veel indruk in de Formule 1. Hij heeft zijn derde wereldtitel al op zak en dit weekend kan hij in Mexico zijn eigen record voor de meeste zeges in één seizoen verbreken. Hij ontvangt veel complimenten en volgens Nigel Mansell kan Verstappen nog veel andere records gaan verbreken.

Verstappen is dit seizoen haast onverslaanbaar in de Formule 1. De Nederlander werd in Qatar voor het derde seizoen op rij wereldkampioen en daarna ging hij gewoon door met winnen. Verstappen bezorgde zijn team Red Bull Racing eerder ook de constructeurstitel en dit seizoen is hij in slechts drie Grands Prix verslagen door andere coureurs. Alleen in Saoedi-Arabië, Azerbeidzjan en Singapore wist hij niet te winnen.

Veel kenners en oud-coureurs zijn onder de indruk van Verstappen. Ook de Britse racelegende Nigel Mansell weet niet wat hij ziet. De enkelvoudig wereldkampioen laat aan AceOdds weten dat er nog veel meer successen gaan volgen: "Ik denk dat hij echt ongelooflijk werk heeft geleverd met het materiaal dat hij heeft dit seizoen. Hij heeft bewezen dat hij er vanaf het begin direct op zat. Gedurende jaar is hij beter geworden, want eerst zat Sergio Perez nog dichtbij. Checo heeft het nu echter lastig om snelheid te vinden. Ik vind Max geweldig. Als hij zo doorgaat, dan kan hij nog veel mijlpalen neerzetten."

    Zoals Schumacher vaak zei - de records zijn er om gebroken te worden. Vandaag verbetert Verstappen ze en morgen iemand anders. Zo gaat het.

    In Mexico ben ik benieuwd wat er gaat gebeuren en of Max verder kan bouwen aan het binnenhalen van eerste plaatsen. Lage luchtdruk nivelleert aerodynamische voor- en nadelen een beetje, tevens nivelleert het de vermogensverschillen tussen de motoren iets. Dat zag je ook toen Mercedes nog domineerde, in Mexico kwam Max altijd dichterbij dan op andere laagland circuits.

      Naar mijn menig zijn de motoren redelijk genivelleerd. De goed drs snelheid komt echt niet alleen van motorvermogen.

      Wat er juist in Mexico gebeurt is dat de spreiding van de motoren groter wordt. Dat heeft met de hoeveelheid zuurstof van doen in de lucht. Een turbo moet harder werken om veel vermogen te halen. Sommige turbo's doen het beter in ijlere lucht dan andere.

      Er is ook nog zo iets als koeling. Er wordt via lucht gekoeld. EN daar is minder van aanwezig. Sommige motoren moeten dan terug worden geschroefd.

      En het komt aan op mechanische grip. Er zijn veel bochten van lage snelheid. 1 die met goede wil als middel snel kan worden aangemerkt. En er zijn geen hogesnelheidsbochten.

      Ik verwacht gezien de mechanische grip hier Mercedes erg goed. Voor de updates zou AM ook goed zijn geweest. Die zijn nu totaal een andere weg ingeslagen.

      Afgaand op Singapore zou Ferrari er ook goed in moeten zijn trouwens. Maar ik kan me van vorig jaar herinneren dat de Ferrari motor behoorlijk was teruggedraaid in Mexico. De reden heb ik nooit vernomen.

      Ik verwacht een saaie race eigenlijk. Kan me niet al te veel spannende races herinneren daar. Recent al helemaal niet.

      Eens met Roy. Max zou wel het verschil kunnen maken. Zoals meestal.

    Mansell is zeker een Brit maar wat mij betreft is de drama Queen met prutconditie beslist geen racelegende...

      De Britten hoogstwaarschijnlijk niet tuurlijk. ;-)
      Ik denk dat ik in zijn wagen ook wel een serieuze kans had op het WK van dat jaar......(grapje natuurlijk he.........alhoewel ;-). )
